The harsh reality sharkie is most foreign countries are a pain in the arse to deal with, India for example would be a pain in the arse. I think Australia just needs to stand firm. The bottom line is they need us as much as we need them, in fact if you study history you soon learn its the countries that hold all the natural resources that hold all the aces in the end, you cant make your own natural resources and there are limited suppliers and sources around the world.

China only as 30 days coal reserves at any one time, they burn it at a fierce rate and cannot survive without fuel for long, Australia has the highest quality coal in the world and it is in cost effective shipping distance to them, the same applies to Iron Ore, although they can stockpile Iron Ore longer.

Theres also limited world sources for beef, wool, grain and other materials they crave, you cant just create food sources easy and there is high global demand. China needs to feed its people and it cannot produce enough food.

Put a Coal and Fuel embargo on China and see how long it would last. Japan and Germany basically started a war to get hold of natural resources.

Don't need to get too carried away with the meat situation, the head of the Meat industry producers said that 4 abattoir's have been requested to update compliance issues which the rest of the industry has already done. He was quite relaxed about the whole thing, he said this can be resolved in a month or so. He went on to say the timing was unfortunate but it's not a punishment move by the commies.

Our politicians and big business need to be taking some of the blame too. Australia has dug itself into a bloody big hole - and going to be hard getting out of it.
Many others simply don't give a toss when trying to explain it.
Being too reliant on one other country is a bad position for australia to be in, and many cannot see it.
