Who would have thought our beautiful island paradise Rottnest Island would be evacuating everyone on the island to basically turning it into a place of isolation for potentially thousands of sick foreigners off cruise ships? It feels like I’m in a dream, a very bad dream. Hard to believe what we are living through right now.

I haven’t been there for probably about 15 years and not sure how I’ll feel about going there again.

Probably bring a sense of déjà vu for the descendants of the blackfellas, from less than 100 years ago.

What makes me laugh is the vessel arriving friday is more likely to be all ok on board. And all the foreigners on board have enjoyed a lovely cruise. Upon arrival, they all get shuffled over to Rottnest for a two week holiday.
I couldn't afford a 2 week vacation on Rottnest - and I'm a bloody local west aussie!!

I’m curious how they are going to get them all there WAG? The Rottnest jetty I’m pretty certain can’t cater for a cruise ship so they will have to use every Rottnest ferry going back and forth non stop.

There seems to be some misunderstanding here, regarding the use of Rotto as a quarantine point.

As I understand it, passengers from the Magnifica and Artania will not be able to come ashore, unless a major medical emergency.

However, the ~800 Australians (including ~200 sandgropers) on the Vasco de Gama (what a sweet name) will be bought off, and sent to Rotto for 14 days.

Spot on DD. When I was at fremantle harbour last year, a ferry terminal is half a stones throw from the cruise terminal. That one could be used.

Its the Australians from the VAS DE GAMA that are going to Rottnest

That ship has Fremantle as its home Port so we are stuck with that one.

The others from the other two ships are NOT leaving the ship.

There are 7 confirmed cases on SS ARTANIA of them.

These things are a bloody nightmare, as you can guarantee there are more cases on board the ship. And it will spread quick as those things are so un hygienic and floating disease carriers.

MAGNIFICA has been refused entry to Dubai and has been told to leave,

Tell them to sail to there home ports.

Magnifica is registered in Panama but MSC is an Italian company so probably home port is Genoa or similar. Piss 'em off I say since they're refuelled and are reporting no sickness on board.

Only Aussie cits and perm residents will get off the ship and go to Rotto for quarantine, others including the kiwi's stay on board.
