Definition of insanity.
Doing the same thing and expecting a different result
First innings Mark Wood comes in, Australia bowls short. He hits 24 off 9 balls
2nd innings  Wood comes in with England needing 20 to win. Australia still have a faint sniff. Cummins and Starc bowl short. Wood deposits a ball in the football stand. Game over.
Makes zero sense. England well and truly back in the series.

You will get the usual lot praising his Captaincy though Mike....they are as clueless as Cummins!

May as well not have played Murphy. 2 overs all day. They could have at least tried him early in the day when they still needed around 150 - 170. Instead he came in when it was only 100 to get.
I was just totally confused by the strategy.

I agree, Mike, giving Todd Murphy just two late overs was a baffling decision.
With Mitch Starc's footmarks and those of the right-arm pacemen from bowling around the wicket, there was enough "grip" outside the right-handers' off-stump to warrant giving Murphy a decent spell earlier in the piece.
Chris Woakes and Mark Wood combined for 13 wickets and each scored 40-plus runs for the match, so they were the difference in another riveting Test match.
Of the Aussies, Mitch Marsh, Travis Head, Pat Cummins and Starc were the only ones who could in any way be satisfied with their performance.
England has the momentum, so it's a relief that the next Test is 10 days away.
I thought I heard that Matt Renshaw has been released from the touring party (off to play county cricket?), but I really think that he (or Marcus Harris) has to replace Dave Warner.
After his great work in the Test final against India, I thought that Scott Boland was destined for a good Ashes series.
However, Boland has probably played his last Test this series after his modest showing at Headingley.
Given his good all-round form with Glamorgan, I'd bring Michael Neser into the XI because he bowls with a lot of enthusiasm.
And our lower-order batting needs a boost because, IMHO, Starc and Cummins are batting one position higher than their abilities warrant.
With margins of 2 wickets, 43 runs and 3 wickets, this would have to be the tightest first three Tests in the Ashes' rich history.

Nathan Lyon was a massive loss for this test and the series. Is the Milky Bar kid what they call a finger spinner? Seems to hold the ball at the end of his finger tips and over spins rather than turns it. I think someone said previously here he is not a big turner. That's an understatement.

Need to find a genuine turner, a wrist spinner for the remaining two tests. Are we the worst reviewing test side in the world? Warner and Marnus are the worst offenders. They always say "I heard something".

All the momentum with England now. What's wrong with Hazelwood?

The six or seven boundary riders with a bouncer every ball needs re appraisal. May work when when you have 500 on the board. 100 run leads though can be reduced pretty quickly as witnessed in England's 1st Innings.

Don't think that is going to happen Ti Em...obviously it's a collective team strategy, not solely a clueless Cummins generated strategy......Cummins is no Brearley or Taylor in terms of being a master tactician.....but geez would of thought the likes of Smith, Uzzie, Warner, Head, Carey and even Marsh, all with 1st class captaincy experience, would be offering some advice too.

Eng will ask for a similar pitch to Headingley for Old Trafford. Anderson will be back for Robinson. Aust need to grow some balls at the selection table and replicate Eng selection policy for that 3rd test. Lengthen the batting and bolster their bowling stocks.

Labuschagne Uzzie Smith Green Head Marsh Carey Neser Starc Cummins and one out of Hazlewood or Murphy.

Employ Starc as Stokes did for Wood....emphasis on short sharp bursts and have Neser in, like Woakes, for his ability with bat n ball. Lots of bowling options in case Cummins or Hazlewood are getting spanked....Neser, Green and Marsh can all  allow the 3 frontline bowlers to remain fresh and focused, instead of going through the motions.

The mind boggles sometimes.
Stokes and Bairstow go quickly after tea.England with 3 wickets left. Still require over 80 runs.
Our field is two men down at fine leg.
Deep mid on and off.
Sweeper on the leg side boundary.
No slips with Carey the only player in a catching position.
So where punting on a Starc, bowled or Lbw or keeper edge.
Lol Cummins and McDonald

DD England have always been vulnerable to leg spin bowling.

pretty poor performance generally and it got what it deserved - got to feel for Boland , he had bizarre field placings and was unlucky several times
I didn't think Cummins & Starc bowled all that well , went for plenty but bowled most of the overs obviously no-one else is to be trusted
It's clear McDonald only trusts certain players so they get the game - anyone on the outside well they just have to wait unitl someone falls over or retires at 60
Just got a feeling Warner won't be dropped they'll just bring out the usual rubbish but they'll drop Boland you watch
