I saw an article this morning that offered the opinion that the young Indian batsmen are no longer as proficient against quality spin bowling as the Dravids, Tendulkars etc. Maybe the proliferation of white ball cricket could have something to do with this? Opportunity perhaps for Lyon and co to have an impact on a series in India which was one place that Shane Warne was never able to conquer totally. I suppose the Indian batsmen just need to be superior to the Australian batsmen in this aspect and they will probably win the series!

Mike if their batsmen are not up to spin, then I guess we will get pitches that have a bit of spice in them, or pitches for draws.
They have a very potent attack of quick as they showed when lad t time here.
Hopefully it will be a good series.

The problem with that is their veterans are still mostly playing and those boundaries are bloody small for any bad balls to disappear into
I'm wondering what they're going to with Murphy and whether Australia go into a game with 3 spinners , given four are travelling over

I suspect we will stick with the tried and true, depending on Greens availability.  Three quicks, Lyon, and Green.
Maybe looking through rose coloured glasses, but I see Agar getting the second  spinner spot ahead of Murphy.
I think he was harshly treated by the tother side critics, Waugh, Haddin, etc for his performance in the Sydney test. Hardly played, coming off white ball cricket, no red ball.
At least Warner stood by Agar during one of his stints commentating.
But it will all depends on how the BCCI want it to play out.

We would be mad not to focus on what our strength is as a bowling unit and that is pace- Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc, Green and or Boland with support from Lyon.
At the end of the day our other spin bowlers are just not up to Test Cricket Agar, Swepson whilst Murphy has barely played a handful of first class games and being an off spinner I cant see him troubling the likes of Kohli, Pujara, Gill, Rahul, Rohit etc.
I wonder who replaces the injured in a car accident Pant as keeper as he has been a thorn in our side of late with his destructive batting in the middle order?
India also relies far more on its pace bowlers these days Bumrah, Siraj, Shami, Ishant, Yadav etc.....but no doubt owing to our poor form against spin over there they will likely dish up tracks to more suit the likes of their spinners Jadeja, Ashwin, Washington, Kuldeep, Axar etc.

I saw last week on fox there was an article talking about a 4-day game in the city of the first test and left arm Orthodox spinners got 9 of the 10 wickets to fall in the last innings. For some reason left arm spinners in India have a great record recently so I think they will start with Aga and bat him 7 in the first test and see what happens.

All their plans would be in disarray right now with Green being ruled he can't bowl in the first test.

it's the natural angle created from the arm of lefties - and it's never the amount of turn , rather the variations of speed and turn that gets the wickets over there because there'll be no bounce to speak of
and the most successful bowlers have one that goes the other way or reverse swing it

It seems the BCCI  are playing silly buggers with Khawaja's visa.AGAIN.
I wonder if CA will have the balls to call off the tour of his visa is not okayed .

Ussie has been now granted the visa but it does look like a bit of a power play rather than an administrative bungle, especially given the fact that it has happened before.
Pretty pathetic really especially given Khawaja has lived in Australia since he was a toddler. Demonstrates the antipathy that exists between India and Pakistan which is manifested in the banning of Pakistan players from the IPL and Indians from the PSL
