Great achievement by the Australian Womens cricket team to go through the 50 over world cup in New Zealand unbeaten, culminating in a complete thrashing of England in the final. Alyssa Healy made a brutal 170 which was part of a score of 5 - 356. The power of her shots were like nothing I have ever seen in womens cricket. The English made a good fist of the chase with Nat Sciver making 148 but fell about 70 short. A wonderful spectacle and a well organised event but the Aussie team are clearly streets ahead of their opposition.

Watched a couple of the matches played at Hagley during the WC, agree mikeu, a very well run event. Hagley is such a great arena, very 70/80s with the grass banks, very English village green like. Once all the fencing and signage comes down, it's just a simple suburban cricket oval.

Healy was outstanding during the finals, played two fantastic innings....scored nearly 300 of her 500 runs in two innings.....not sure how Healy won player of the tournament though....struggled for consistency through the qualifying stage....scoring 200 runs over 7 innings....unlike Haynes and Mooney who were super consistent throughout Aust 9 innings.....but in the end its a team game and Australia were the dominant team....scoring some pretty big totals during the comp.

I have fond memories of Hagley Oval. Our trip to Christchurch 6 years ago coincided with a test match between Australia and New Zealand and I had the pleasure of watching Brendon McCullums final six in test cricket which sailed between my wife and I on the grass banks. Didnt have the reflexes to even put my hand out to try and catch it.  Very enjoyable day and even better the Aussies won the test!
Lovely ground in a beautiful city. On the bucket list to get back there in the not too distant future.

Some on here, me included at times bemoan some sectors of womens sport, but this team must now be ranked as one of, if not the greatest Australian and international sporting team of all time. They have dominated their sport in all it's forms for so many years and should get as much recognition as possible.

I was there that day too mikeh with my youngest.....Mitch Marsh took a blinder to "catch" McCullum....only for one of the fast boys(Patto?)  overstepping...great knock showcasing all his shots....Can't believe it's been 6 years.  Sadly by the time you come back, Christchurch will have an Optus like stadium, and Hagley will go back to being an A grade comp facility. The new stadium will be for rugby, cricket and concerts, right smack bang in the city centre.

Very true SS, Aust ladies are at their peak, which plenty of talent waiting in the wings for an opportunity  ..hard to imagine 2-3 of their best bowlers were out injured too....King did a Warnie, bowling Dunkley behind her legs in the final.....and she 8snt Aust 1st choice leggie from memory....

Mike & Freeze I highly recommend the sports doco Kiwi Cricket that can be seen on Kayo if you have it.
It has a number of those fantastic old village green type cricket venues in NZ.

Freeze I think the Aussie girls were missing Vlaeminck (their fastest bowler), Wareham (the leggie) & Molyneaux (the left arm ortodox spinner) and possibly 1 or 2 others, I dont think Perry was fit for the Final (didnt bowl and batted at 7) either but they thankfully squeezed her in as she missed the T20 World Cup win here in 2020 with injury as well.

Yeah thought the Aussie girls were missing a few decent sorts BH. I guess with Perry, she is a champ and despite her dodgy back, she did throw herself around the field and that last ball of the Aussie innings, she dived for the crease full stretch to turn a 1 into a 2.
