It is usually difficult to recover from losing 4 wickets in the first 6 overs of a 20/20 game, but credit to Turner and Evans that they attacked the bowling with an outstanding 100 run stand in 10 overs. A score of 170 was well above par and the bowlers were all over the sixers from the start. The Sixers did well to get to the final given their injury and COVID problems but they couldnt match it with the Scorchers who were rested and were playing at a ground they were familiar with, albeit their preference would have been to play at Optus. Overall it was an outstanding season by the men in orange. I think the difference this year was that whilst their bowling was strong as it always has been, their batsmen were consistently putting up scores of 170 - 190 which has not always been the case in previous years.
There were some upsides to their hardships of being away from Perth for so long in that they were certainly able to gel as a unit and some of the players had their wives and kids there, which would have helped a lot. They were based in Melbourne for the latter stages of the tournament along the same lines as Melbourne Football Club made Perth their 2nd home during the AFL finals
Having said all this, hopefully next season will revert to a more normal schedule and that the Scorchers can unfurl their flag in their first game at Optus.
