You can bet they’d be way, way down.

Yeah, true, honestly cant believe people watch the crap, but its all new a the moment, why dont they run it during the season proper as its own stand alone comp, just like the Aleague womens. I was out Saturday and a diehard docker he bagged it but was actually getting pumped about the win, gotta take anything they can I guess.

Maybe if they get better they may swap the "boysies" with the "girlies" just to get some silverware.

While I do agree that you see better standard at your local community ovals watching under 15's than you do watching AFLW what puzzles me the most is they can operate the stadium with only charging $3.00per person entry, and kids free, yet they charge a fortune to go to an AFL match.

There will be games this year the dockers don't draw 37000 people yet both games require security, ticket staff and people to run canteens and bars.

I do like the fact the girls have a chance to play the game, they will just take time to learn how to play it naturally

The standard is improving every year and the atmosphere at the ground was great. The argument that this is sucking money away from 2nd tier mens competitions is rubbish because the AFL have failed to invest in these competitions long before the AFLW came along.

PS I would love some of the dinosaurs who comment on here to have the guts to front up to some of these women and call them "Girlies" .Easy to hide behind a computer and say it.

Sad thing for the WAFL is that the its mainly the old dinosaurs that who turn up with their prehistoric attitudes and support it each week and just like the dinosaurs the crowds have died off.

On the flip side the AFLW caters for a different market and has a young supporter base that will continue to grow as the competition matures.

So are we “prehistoric” because we follow wafl? Or prehistoric for saying aflw is complete rubbish?

I watched a bit of a game the other week adelaide I think v someone and thought the standard was getting better but started watching a game on Wednesday and god it was dog shit. I can’t even remember who played but fmd they couldn’t do anything right. Cringeworthy garbage most of them couldn’t even kick longer than 30m and they carry on like the bitches they are with the slightest injury. One or 2 of them aren’t too bad though but it must be a pre requisite to have no tits

TOOl not sure what you need explained?
Prehistoric is an adjective describing the noun being your attitude.

Refer to DG’s comments for a further example

So if being prehistoric requires a person to criticise something unworthy of tv coverage, then that’s me. Aren’t you the one that has a granddaughter that plays the game? If so I can see why you think it’s the greatest game in the world! However honestly, I can’t see why they burn up valuable tv time on that when there is an infinitely better game to watch......known as WAFL.

Another forum contributor mentioned having a granddaughter who plays, not me.

Also I've never said AFLW is the greatest game in the world. For a start, Australian Rules Football is the game, WAFL and AFLW are leagues. The standard of the WAFL is clearly better than the AFLW, just like the standard of the AFL is better than the WAFL.

Shark58 not sure if you've noticed but the AFLW and WAFL seasons run at different times of the year - AFLW games are not competing with the WAFL for media coverage.

The scheduling of the AFLW season sees it compete against a few other traditional winter sports that have moved to summer in Australia when they realised that they couldn't compete against the AFL or NRL for media coverage and would rather compete against cricket - NBL, WNBL, A-League, W-League.

Given that the WAFL and AFL seasons will always align, how does the WAFL:
- gain more traction in an AFL saturated media?
- increase match day attendance when it seems fairly clear that the vast majority of
football supporters prefer to watch AFL games live or on TV instead of attending the
WAFL

The WAFL has struggled with the above issues since the AFL was formed and the WAFL was
relegated from the premier football competition in WA to a second tier competition.

Stop pretending that the WAFL is a victim of the AFLW being introduced.

Just came across this post TT. My point was one of disappointment that so much publicity is poured on the women’s game, while come footy season proper, they couldn’t give a rat’s about the WAFL. I never suggested that their game took anything away from the WAFL games. As for your questions about how the WAFL gain traction...it won’t happen. Old farts like us will follow it to our end, but today’s generation just want glitz and local footy isn’t given this by the media. Crowds and interest will continue to wane.
