So they want more money for their players. What do we get? Two lousy scoring shots by Footscray. Hardly worth what they already get.. Didn't watch it so it may have been a cracker. AFLW should be AFLg (for girlies).

They have sold 37,000 seats and anticipate 45,000 will attend.The Aflw western Derby at Optus Oval.$3 admission with proceeds going to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.
Funny how the Wafl will have at least a dozen games this season. With an attendance under 1000 supporters.

It’s mind boggling gtr, 37000 at a game that has the skills of under 14’s footy and 1000 at a game that is played by arguably by some of the best second tier footballers in Australia??? Go figure.

What are you struggling to comprehend - female football participation levels have never been higher, accounting for over 30% of all player registrations across Australia and continue to grow significantly each year.

Female participants want to go watch the AFLW girls play the highest level of female footy - doesn't matter what level of male football you want to compare it to.

Yep I was there today and what was noticeable was the number of young girls between 10 and 15 in attendance. The standard is improving every year and the atmosphere at the ground was great. The argument that this is sucking money away from 2nd tier mens competitions is rubbish because the AFL have failed to invest in these competitions long before the AFLW came along.

PS I would love some of the dinosaurs who comment on here to have the guts to front up to some of these women and call them "Girlies" .Easy to hide behind a computer and say it.

Sad thing for the WAFL is that the its mainly the old dinosaurs that who turn up with their prehistoric attitudes and support it each week and just like the dinosaurs the crowds have died off.

On the flip side the AFLW caters for a different market and has a young supporter base that will continue to grow as the competition matures.

How many would turn up to a stand alone WAFLW match with the same level of publicity as your average WAFL game? The AFL and the media poor a lot of marketing resources into promoting it. And it’s always either been free to attend or a token entry fee.

But participation numbers don’t lie and are undeniable so from a merchandise point if view it’s probably another strong revenue stream for the clubs and the AFL. Television ratings are another byproduct of it’s marketing. Is it even broadcast of the radio? Who would bother to listen?

If that was the standard of a WAFL match the commentators would be saying the standard of this game today you wouldn’t put it in a time capsule. It is what it is.

I just wonder why so many people would watch a snorefest, but not a WAFL game? As for the gates, how do you think the takings would be if they charged full WAFL and AFL prices? You can bet they’d be way, way down.

Yeah, true, honestly cant believe people watch the crap, but its all new a the moment, why dont they run it during the season proper as its own stand alone comp, just like the Aleague womens. I was out Saturday and a diehard docker he bagged it but was actually getting pumped about the win, gotta take anything they can I guess.
