Fremantle would without a doubt have a few premiership cups in the trophy cabinet if we drafted a side out of a WAFL the strength that it was in the mid 80’s and added established VFL stars the calibre of Glendenning, Wiley, Narkle, Annear etc...

So get your hand off it with your tiresome trophy cabinet jokes. So let’s be fair and dismiss the first 3 flags shall we? First two were WA state sides, the third one you could make a whole season of Underbelly on. So I’ll give you the last one, you’re 1 up on us alright? But then..........I’m not sure if Willie might have had a few joints during the week in the lead up to get the heart rate down. Cool Hand Willie. Lol

Your answer is the problem with Freo since day one and obviously still exists - always the little brother running off to mum crying about it not being fair that your older brother is bigger and stronger cause he was born first.

Freos inept draft and trade history is infamous.
McLeod, Lucas, Lloyd and Farmer picks all traded away for little value and that was just your first year in the competition. How many players have Freo traded away, only to see them flourish at another club and on several occasions then traded to get them back? On the flip side how many established AFL players have Freo traded to get in to see them struggle and either get delisted or traded out a few seasons later where the player revitalises their career again!

The last one anyone needs trade or draft advice from is Freo.

Ps Thanks for Chad Morrison, Phil Matera, David Wirrpanda. The rest of the AFL also thanks you for your unique draft and trade techniques.

25 years in the comp and you’ve actually finished lower on the ladder for the last 3 seasons than you did in your first 3 years with your weak non-state side.

Fuck it didn’t post first attempt in time so here goes again . I’ll post and edit as I go. That’s the problem with you Eeegirls and the reason I don’t support the Eagles and chose Fremantle many years ago. You think you are elite and love to sling shit at Fremantle but can’t take it when it’s thrown back at you.

It’s a well known FACT the Eagles were a state side exclusively picked out of the WAFL when the WAFL was a very strong comp. It was severely depleted by the time Fremantle came into the competition and we didn’t have the luxuries WC had. Have you forgotten the Magnificent Seven? John Worsfold, Peter Sumich, Guy McKenna, Chris Lewis, Chris Waterman, Scott Watters and Paul Peos? From probably to this day still the strongest WA u/18s in history and probably another half dozen from that side went on to play successful VFL/AFL careers. Dean Laidley, John Gastev? Remember those? All cast off along with Scott Watters and Paul Peos because they couldn’t crack a game.

Now fast forward to now, just imagine if the AFL said to Fremantle we are going to give you exclusive rights to the WA state u/18s championship winning side in this years draft before the draft even begins. Who would be crying to THEIR MUMMY? I reckon Trevor Nisbett would be leading the chorus. Lol ?

6PR would go into meltdown with Eeegirl supporters jamming the switchboard.

A lot of those West Aussies picked by the Eagles in the inception squad were for a better word second string state players.
Heres a list of players the Eagles didnt/couldnt get there hands on at that time.
Hunter,Blackwell Jim and Phil Krakouer,Lester-Smith,Buckenara,Peter Satori,Leon Baker,Peake,Rioli,Bairstow,Hardie,Winmar,Beasley,Christian.Spalding, all playing at other VFL clubs.

Of course they were able to get there hands on some good young footballers with some pre-draft selections but they also had to use draft picks and use them well for example Richmond,Footscray and St Kilda all had a chance of picking up Peter Matera but passed him over before the Eagles snared him at pick 4,the same draft they got Heady at 92.

The Eagles were nowhere near gifted a state side. A state side was the 35+ gun WA players running around for other sides in 1987.

Wiley and Glendinng age 32 and 31 were well past there prime, great leaders, both had very short playing careers at the Eagles.

From the 1992 Premiership team drafted guys like Evans went at pick 64,Heady pick 92,Kemp 117,Langdon 54,Wilson traded from Richmond for picks 18 and 32,Harding from St Kilda traded for pick 12...

If that’s the case 30plus how do you rate the quality of players Fremantle got to pick from the WAFL in 1995? 3rd or 4th stringers? Then having the likes of Glendenning, Wiley, Narkle, Annear to nurture the young players is the equivalent of Hawthorn sending Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis and Burgoyne all to Brisbane or Gold Coast.

We can rattle off half a dozen names we picked late too who went on to become champions. Sandilands rookie listed, Neale pick 54 or something like that spring to mind. My point is the early beginnings of the Eagles and Dockers are NOT apples for apples.

The inaugural West Coast squad wasn’t close to the state of origin team of 1986 or ‘87with plenty of top end WA talent playing for the eastern states teams.

Of this apparent state team that West Coast was given in your opinion DD, only a handful of players from 87 were still on the list in 95 when the Dockers entered the comp.

In regards to the 1985 Teal Cup Magnificent 7 they were selected over 3 years, not a free hit to pick who and as many as you want that you’ve suggested DD.

1987 - Peos, Worsfold, Lewis (zone selections in 86)
1988 - Waterman, McKenna (zone selections in 87)
1989 - Sumich, Watters (priority selections in 88)

West Coast were also not allowed to participate in the 86 and 87 drafts after selecting there inaugural squad in 86.

Let’s compare that to the Dockers in ‘94.
**Warning this may disturb our Dockers supporters
Traded to Fremantle
Dale Kickett (Essendon) for selection #39

22: Winston Abraham (Perth)
42: Douglas Headland (Perth)

73: Sam McFarlane (Subiaco)

Pre-season draft:
2: Greg Madigan (Hawthorn)

Pre-draft selections:
Daniel Bandy (Perth)
Jay Burton (Subiaco)
Brad Cassidy (Ballarat Rebels)
Antony Ljubic (Gippsland Power)
Neil Mildenhall (West Perth)

Well done TT I commend you for your research efforts which proves the difference in talent available to WC compared to Fremantle in the early years. I noticed you neglected to list all the players WC were able to draft in their first couple of years, don’t just name the magnificent seven. Maybe that might embarrass some Eagles supporters when they realise the glaring obvious.

The Dockers has just as much talent to select from in 94 as WC has in 86.

The Dockers just failed to attract the top quality WA talent home that the WC were able to.

How much better would have the Dockers looked in 95 if they’d not traded away draft picks and instead used them to secure Lloyd, Lucas, McLeod, Wakelin, Farmer, Houlihan, Nicks and Freeborn. All 100+ gamers with a number of All Australians and premiership players.

What an initial squad you could have put together DD...But you didn’t!

Lol here you are rattling off all these names we could have recruited , only one of them a West Australian so who knows how long we might have had them for before they requested a trade home?

But low and behold take a look at these two star studded Premiership winning teams from 1992 and 1994. Guess how many NON West Australian players in those two teams? I’ll just sit back and wait for your answer Tiger Tales since you’re so knowledgeable I expect I won’t be waiting long.
