Umpires knew the rules. Rampe should have been penalized. Gil sticks up for his umps & says common sense prevailed.
Well that's CRAP. If it is NOT legal to shake the post then remove the rule.
Dont get the umpire to tell the player to climb down.
Umps dont tell players to clear the way when a 50m penalty is paid, they just yell 100m.
Robbed by THREE umpires not knowing the rules.
No wonder they cop abuse.

Extraordinary statement from Gil M, blatant poor umpiring - did the umpire actually know the rulebook? This wasn’t one of those “interpretive” decisions it was a blatant breaking of the rules. Should have been a sensational win to Essendon.
