Hey Swan, tell me what league won the most National Championships?

By any fare assement the overwhelming domination of the VFL in the national comps would clearly indicate it was the most powerful league.

And you still haven't named who should drop out at the expense of Walker and Todd

btw as pointed I out before they are in TWO Hall of Fames, WAFL and AFL - anyone who was VFL only is one only. So they have a huge advantage over them already.

Who would I trust on the assesment of both leagues,,Hassa Mann or Swan 42, most assuredly not Swan 42.

AFL is nearly 30 yrs old now, surely we can find someone to name their awards after rather than some old Victorians that are a legend in the Vics minds? For a start, get rid of the Norm Smith medal and rename it the John Worsfold medal, maybe even the Michael Tuck medal - someone that has played at the highest level.

Id agree with that, as pointed out the Lockett Medal for the leading goal kicker would be ideal , played for clubs in two states.

Bazza by your "sound" logic WA have won at least one national championships, therefore there should be a % GREATER THAN ZERO as legends of the game. You really are showing your VIC-centric hat if you don't think any exclusively WAFL player should not be afforded Hall of Fame Legend status. As for your quite remarkable thinking that if one is a legend of the WAFL it is not possible to be a legend of the Hall of Fame (AFL) it is breathtaking.

Btw there are more Players in the Legends list that played WANFL/WAFL football than SANFL ..so what if its not exclusively WAFL.

How many exclusive Tasmanian Players are there?

Yawn,yawn!

You STILL haven't named those Crabs yet.

Grassy if you think that EVERY person who has been named as a Legend is more deserving of that status than true legends such as Todd, Walker et al I must congratulate you on going over to the DARK SIDE.

If it is truly representative of Aussie Rules footy then they should have been named in the initial intake.

I said NO such thing Swan and you know it.Besides, those players are already there.Barring anything deadly serious, you can't replace them. But they can be added to.

You were the one who let fly about some of those guys being Crabs and as yet,you haven't backed down or at least rephrased your statement.

Are you going to name those Crabs or not?

Grassy, Grassy, Grassy. I did not say they were crabs. I said that relatively speaking they were crabs compared to some of the WAFL legends such as Walker, Todd et al. I don't recant find that comment and I see no need to qualify it. The number of legends is a purely arbitrary number and I maintain that Bill Walker should have been in the first cohort of legends. His record clearly indicates that.

If you acknowledge that there are more than those who had an involvement in the VFL, e.g. Bill Walker, named as members of the Hall of Fame it follows that those in the very upper echelon of WAFL and SANFL players/coaches should be included as legends as well.

The first legends were named in 1996, over twenty years ago. Still not one WAFL player or coach who did not play in the AFL given legend status.

Now if we were to re-name the medal there would only be one candidate, whom actually played in the WAFL and the silly VFL with genuine distinction

George Maloney

claremont 555 goals
Geelong 303 goals

leading goal kicker 1932 -- 109 goals -- just the second man to do it.

but what really made George a star was that he could also play in the middle.

th Brownlow Medal could easily be changed to the Bunton Medal

He played for:

Fitzory
Subi
Port Adelaide.

What about the Simon Beasley Medal AR? :)
He also was a Bernie Naylor Medallist & a Coleman Medallist and kicked the most goals of any player in the 1980s!

BH: a very good name -- forgot about him -- good achievement by your man. He would have kicked more gaols too accept for the fact that malthouse refussed to play him on a wet day. Don't forget Brian Taylor kicked a few gaols in that era.

I would go for Moloney over Coleman for a few reasons:

Claremont were rubbish for the first part of his career
he kicked 109 goals in his first season,
he kicked his tally in a side which finished outsided the final four
he won the sandover
was runner-up in the Brownlow
was the second player to kick 100 gaols in a season after Coventry
between 1932 and 1968 only Coleman and Bob Pratt, in a SM side full of Subiaco players, kicked 100 goals in a season.

He is worthing of having his name on the medal alright.
