Would anyone like to comment on what Nick Riewoldt did yesterday and whether it was akin to staging?

Gamesmanship anyone???. Wonder what the reaction would have been if a dockers player ( walters for example) had tried this on??

Very clever by Reiwoldt, would not of been an issue if Freo had won hey.. the player in question knew who the free kick was for just give it back simple really.

What is the big commotion here it was smart play by Riewoldt and dumb play by Logue and the umpire...nearly as dumb as Weller kicking 50m sideways/backwards with far too much air or Grey pushing his opponent to ground just after Ballantyne received a 50m to the goal line and the umpire forced to reverse the decision...I could name many other dumb incidents from Fremantle yesterday!

He hasn't broken any rules but I would expect a bit better from a guy who I think is a bit of a statesman in the game. The reason that the 50 metre penalty was originally instituted for not returning the ball to the right player is for situations where the offending player is trying to buy time for his teammates to move into defensive positions. However this was a stop play situation where the St Kilda player was going to have a shot at goal so it was not giving the Dockers any advantage by throwing it to the wrong person. I think the umpire could have used a bit of discretion although I thought that the umpire who gave the 50 metre penalty had his back to the whole situation so he gave a penalty for something he didn't see. Surely one of his mates would have seen what was happening and a bit of common sense would have ensued. No such luck.

Hopefully Griffin learns from it and it will serve as a bit of motivation when they next play St Kilda

I don't think it was in the spirit of the game but I don't really have too much of a problem with Reiwold, as childish as it was, more with the umpire who had his back to the incident making the call and then the other umpires not correcting the decision.
