What's the go with this?

A pathway to coaching,play for a season then into the coaching group.

Apparently the Eagles have been into him for over 12 months about it and Clarkson has told him its a good idea,by some reports it was Clarkson idea(something along those lines).
Of course it frees up some cash for the Hawks to accomodate there recruits.

Personally i think he'd be a great fit for 1 year,his forms good so yeah why not.
4 premierships and current F & B winner (to go with his other 4) at the Hawks.
That sort of experience whether its for 1 year playing or joining your coaching ranks is invaluable.
If it comes off great if it doesnt well nothing lost.

Would take some presuure off Priddis being the one in the packs trying to get the ball out.

A fantastic way for a club great to keep his club up in grand final contention, one year at west coast and then a well paid coaching gig. Hawks fans will hate it at first but once the trade is done they will hold Sam in even higher regard for what he has done for his club.

Really one from left field this one isn't it. Could work and as you say the importing of leg speed didn't work. Looks like its going to happen and will certainly generate a lot interest next year.

This has taken all of us by surprise.Eagles have been quiet during the period after there finals exit.Looked like the Ballantine offer had gone quiet.And Darling was taken off the trade table.Only trying to trade off some injured players and look for a fill gap ruckman.Petrie has been mentioned.
There's no reason why Mitchell couldn't play another 2 seasons he's still playing good footy.Sam now has a great pathway into AFL coaching.

Hawks in desperate need of draft picks. What Eagles got to offer? Jetta will be making sure he's within 20m of Mitchell wherever he goes to be on the end of a handball receive. Kennedy will be licking his lips. He might teach the Eagles how to win a game of footy on the MCG.

Memo Nat Fyfe, be careful if Mitchell comes to town. You don't want to bump into him.

Not sure about this one. Mitchell will add his elite disposal skills and decision making but he doesn't have a lot of pace which is what the Eagles need.

It is a concern I guess with having Priddis and Mitchell in the middle. They are both ball getters, Mitchell has excellent disposal, Priddis not so, but gets plenty of the ball. The common denominator is lack of leg speed and that is something they still have to address, Masten is not the answer as his disposal is poor, Shuey and Gaff are ok. They need another speedie midfielder with good execusion to gain the benefits of Mitchell. Could work but they need to get more pace in there.

His lack of leg speed has zero impact on how effective he is as a champion - 5 x Crimmins medal winner, most Brownlow votes by anyone in history and likely Brownlow medalist when they rightfully take Jobes off him. The guy will go down as an all time great and with the footy he is playing ATM will lift the chances of Wet Toast significantly, Clarkson is a genius, and as a mate told me today he comes over gets trained up in coaching and will then go back and take over the Hawks when Clarkson is done, win win for Hawthorn and that's why they are the very best and have been for along time

Not talking about his ability which is undisputed and I'm sure he will be an excellent coach. I was more focussing on West Coast short term needs (2017) and I still wonder if he is a good fit for them.
