What is the thinking behind having AFL games on Thursday night? There is one tonight and the Freo v Collingwood game is on next Thursday. Kids who have to go to school next day or people starting work early on Friday may not be able to attend because of the time the game finishes. I know the AFL are experimenting with playing games on different nights but this move appears to be totally focussed on getting the game on TV for an extra night rather than any consideration of the punters who actually go to the game.

Mikeh check where the games are being played and take particular note of the time the Fremantle game starts.

you summed it up with that last sentence. Its a TV game & that is the priority. Similar to the NFL. The NFL's biggest night is Monday night football. The AFL are probably trying that same angle, and Thursday nights may be the next semi regular niche for them.

6.10 in Perth = 8.10 in Melbourne = prime time viewing for Collingwood supporters = screw the Freo supporters trying to get to the game after work = Just rename it VFL

Not so much that, you go where ya get best bang fer ya buck, thats TV, where is the bigest TV audience?, over East, thats the short answer. Tell me the last time "the business" ( read AFL ), cared about the footy fan

the game itself was very good too, I enjoyed it. The AFL have 4 games on Thursday nights this year. I suspect they may go to 8 next year. Its an unusual slot but I think it could work OK. They may opt for only 2 Sunday games and phase out those Sunday twilight games, which the public have expressed they don't like.

I still think there is enough scope for 2 Friday night games at the same time. They have 2 networks so it shouldn't be that hard. Also it opens up a major opportunity for clubs who don't normally get that prime fixture. This attracts extra sponsorship, extra money and extra publicity. The NRL have been doing it for years.

3 Thursday night games in a row, WTF ? just stupid, yeah OK they might of got 50K but i was a top of the table clash, Friday night they would always get more and always better ratings as well.

The Sunday night games have been canned, after bugger all turned up, I thought they had decided to go fo rmore games on a Saturday , which is when footy should be..Im a huge fan of Friday night and Saturday nights, but three nights in a row is OTT.
