I thought it may be a good time to revive the debate that took place on the old footygoss forum as these three players go into their 7th season.

At the time many (mainly Subiaco supporters)were highly critical of the Dockers and Eagles for not taking Rich ahead of Hill and Natanui.

Stats don't provide the full picture but here they are anyway:

Hill 130 games 73W 57L AV Kicks 10.35 Av HB 7.75 Av Marks 2.78 Av Disposals 18.09 Goals 85 Points 67.

Natanui 110 games 57W 53L Av Kicks 4.47 Av HB 7.71 Av Marks 1.94 Av Disposals 12.18 Goals 73 Points 47.

Rich 103 games 40W 62L 1D Av Kicks 11.33 Av HB 7.8 Av Marks 2.83 Av Disposals 19.13 Goals 69 Points 66.

The damning stats from Natanui's perspective is that he takes less marks than the other two. That is somewhat counteracted by his average hit outs at 20.95 but still less than Dean Cox at 22.86 and Sandilands at 29.41.

There was a lot of hysteria about Rich being rewarded with premiership medals and all sorts of awards and Hill has played in the most number of finals.

At the end of the day I suspect that the three clubs would be unlikely to change their choice given what has evolved.

Good wrap up. I recall the debates very well and I agree.
Some others to note but firstly Im sure Melb would trade Jack Watts at number 1 for any of those 3 players plus a few more.
WCE would love to swap Swift for Ballantyne at pick 20 and 21.
Freo got a steal at 53 with Walters.
How did Dayne Beams get through to 29 and Hannebery at 30?
How did Tom Rockliff not get drafted to the pre season draft??
Overall a very strong draft

I think your last sentence said it all. All three of them bring different skill sets to the table so comparing them is like comparing apples to pears to oranges. Make no mistake they are all very good players. As for the debate about which club got the best deal, I really think that has been done to death....

Nic Nat's hit out stats will only go up from here now that the Eagles are Cox-less
Nic Nat hasn't been the number 1 Ruckman until this year.
He has had 70 hit outs in 2 weeks.

The Hill referred to is Stephen Hill from Fremantle.

Fremantle were criticised very strongly at the time for choosing him ahead of Rich.

Still plenty of football ahead for all three and the final answer is still a pineapple.

Beams slipped through because he was injured in his later teens but the Magpies recruiter had seen him play when he was 15/16.
I would prefer Rich over Hill, but wouldn't be disappointed with any of them.
All 3 still have no premiership medals!

Hill for me, looks like his best is still in front of him. Hope so because he is a pleasure to watch when on song
