Dayle Garlett arrested for driving a stolen car and aggrevated burglary.
What an idiot. Obviously hanging out with some top notch friends. His parents must be so proud, talk about going from hero to zero

I think it's pretty sad to think a kid with such talent has thrown it all away, what will he regret about his life when he gets to say 40 (if he survives that long). Just an absolute waste.

Hopeless case.

And the usual talk about oppressiveness and all that, is just the usual cop-out that continues the cycle of bullshit.

This kids story is a classic example of how wiping their arses instead of hitting them between the eyes with reality, doesn't work. The tip toeing on eggshells to not ignite the race issue will continue this path for eternity. Well done to the righteous brigades, there are plenty of these weak bastards who have no answers, but plenty of spineless ideas.

I might add, none of which helps them. It actually enables.

I think we tiptoe on eggshells because we dispossessed and took their land and traditional way of life. Brought disease and alcohol, committed murders, took children from their mothers, discriminated and excluded. I have paraphrased from Paul Keatings 1992 Redfern speech. Keating went on to say in his speech "We failed to ask - how would I feel if this were done to me? we failed to make the most basic human response.

It is not our fault we do not understand the adversity that the Australian Aboriginal faces. Racism has no personal bearing on us in our daily life so how could we understand the difficulty of being an indigenous person living in Australia over the last 226 years? we are not the ones waking up everyday marked by the colour of our skin.

So bashing people etc etc, is a response to the colour of ones skin? Wonder if in indigenous culure this was acceptable behavior?. There is right and wrong no matter what skin you wake up in. Please tell me what % indigeenous i need by to claim racism, and being a victim

I agree there is difference between right and wrong. The charges against this guy are serious. Race should be left out of it. Sentence the crime not the individual i say - the fact he is Aboriginal should not have been brought up.

Thank you Joan for adding perfectly to the point I was making.

I never mentioned once, the term aboriginal or the fact he is aboriginal. If that is debatable, feel free to read my post again carefully.

I did mention oppressiveness and other reasons used for individuals whom do wrong, to fall back on as an excuse to break the law. When PEOPLE get opportunities others would dream of, and extra outside support beyond the norm, and still they shelve it with contempt, then white black yellow or green they need (or needed when it mattered) to be hit between the eyes with reality.

Furthermore I mentioned people who play the race card in general, force the walking on eggshells for the mainstream (society - black & white). I never mentioned or stereotyped this young man as an aboriginal, you did. And it reiterated my point.

This kid could have been playing in an AFL Grand Final with Hawthorn next week. He was living with Luke Hodge. He was being guided by Cyril Rioli. And look where he is now 5 months later. If someone like Hodge & Rioli can't get through to him, what does that tell you ? If those eggshells and the political correctness were swept aside, and someone actually grabbed this boy & slammed him up against the wall and imbedded some home truths in him, he could have been something.

I didn't play the race card, but I did explain people do. And then you posted basically exactly what I was talking about. This kid didn't need people to give him a free pass because of his background, he needed his mindset to be stripped bare.

And guess what? We have probably lost this incredible talent. All because we are restrained by do-gooder themes. Themes that continue to be used, and results that are the same. If I am wrong, we will never know. Because the race card hand was played. Ask Matt Rendell what that is all about. This man would have or could have broken down barriers and made this kid a path. But we will never know will we? In the meantime, lets keep losing talent like this, and keep the waves to a minimum. It's working a treat.
