The only thing that will save football is if players are once again allowed to kick the ball long. Even if that means kicking long to a 2 on 2. That will bring the high mark back and the old fashioned crumber/goal sneak.

If I read or hear the phrase "lower the eyes" one more time I'm go mad or even madder than I already am.

Why are coaches content to see their players burn the ball on a 20m hit up but hate a 50 kick to a contest?

You can get dragged for kicking long nowdays.

Well although I don't think his idea is practical, I do think that something needs to change because between the rule makers and the coaches the game is being ruined.

LaH how about this for a solution to the current rugby mauls and scrums. The umpires pay the free kicks for holding the ball, holding the man, pushes in the back and incorrect disposal when they are there. Also, instead of telling the players to knock the ball out when it is patently not possible as more and more players pile on, the umpire when a pack of three or four players happens he picks up the ball and throws it up (they can't bounce it anymore). If they did that it would be pyhsically impossible for the 36 players to get to the ball in time.

@Swan42 - Im with you on that one. I hate it how players can just drop the ball or place the ball on the ground now. They need to kick it or handball it and if they dont do that they get penalised.
I would also love to see an umpire try to get it out when he has got a 90+kg bloke pinning him down... "no genuine attempt"
