Yeah soccer has so stuffed up admin wise for 20 or so years. Despite that, and with bascially (compared to AFL NRL ) zero coverage, it has still blossomed. One of the many problems AFL has now is that to make the game evolve (yet again) they have to put in some MORE rules to change the 467 blokes around the ball nowadays. The rules are so open to interpretation even moreso these days, it makes it harder to understand, even HARDER for people intoduced to the sport as newbies. Once people dont understand things, they get frustrated and cant be bothered.

You wont have to wait that long . its already happening, A league is booming in the Eastern States, Wanderers are craping on GWS, Brisbane Roar leave the lions for dead, and crowds are healthy in Sydney and Melbourne and Adeliade, Glory are flat lining here, its time for Sage to piss off.

And there in lies the problem , the biggest strength Soccer has is the rules never change and have not done so for nearly 100 years...

Ive lost count of the stupid changes in AFL and loss of footy culture.

Take just a little thing like the umpires attire, now they wear pink, ornage, fark knows what else the iconic ozzie goal umpire outfit is gone replaced with american style outfits and you have birds doing it.

Soccer refs still wear the same black kit they wore 100 years ago,

the more you fark around with a game the more you fark it up.

not sure if this is true, but i have heard that football(aka soccer) has the highest participation rate of the four codes in australia.

HUH?, Swans been in NSW for what 20 years?, and no SUBSTANTIAL growth in that state. Aussie rules imho, is too hard for newbies to comprehend. It will take generations SHOULD it ever trickle down in those states, meanwhile soccer is flying Australia wide ( believe me Glory they take off, once a bit of success comes.)

Soccer to take over the extended vfl for sure.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

What is this "takeover" silliness .
All codes have their following
Will always be that way
Some people like all sports
Overall every sport has its niche and will attract certain groups of people. In America they never talk about codes vs codes like we do here. They just get on with everything and don't have this who's dominating mentality . We are all losing our minds in Oz.

Not so sure Jardine... personally at elite level i dont think all 3 coes can survive in the $$ market, and the companies go where the $$ market is. The seppos have one Major football code (gridiron)all over ths US, in pommilend its soccer, all other sports are not in the same ball park (pardon the pun). Here with such a small population we are trying to support all 3.
