Leave the big money players out of it Mike, look what Packer and Murdoch did to the Rugby league.

Exactly what I mean. Pinch the likes of Collingwood, Hawthorn and Geelong from under the AFL's noses :evil: Create a Super League, and destroy it once and for all. Then things might get back to normal.

You can debate the merits of the two week suspension but I suspect that if it had been Ballantyne rather than Viney doing EXACTLY the same thing as what Viney did Whateley et al would not have raised a single comment defending him. If it is overturned on appeal, and I believe that is as likely as night follows day, then the following needs to happen:

the MRP who reviewed the incident should be summarily sacked;

the tribunal who made the original finding should be summarily sacked; and

the outgoing CEO of the AFL should be summarily dismissed.

The MRP issues suspensions based solely on rules formed by the AFL, so I can understand the crap that comes from them. However I would have thought the Tribunal would use a rational thought process, however it appears they have rules to follow also. Complete waste of time they are.
If no jaw was broken there would have been no penalty.
The problem for the AFL is the heat they are getting from insurance companies with numerous pending court cases with previous players.
A broken jaw and a pretty good knock to the head...
However there is boxing, ufc, league... all rough stuff. Get the player to sign his life away. They get paid enough to run in circles.

The 8 team super league, what a great idea. Then we could have regulation with the 10 teams left over. Brilliant!

I am not a fan of the decision either but Viney did break his jaw through his actions, the AFL believes the head is sacrosanct which is probably why he got 2 weeks. I cant see it being overturned. You are allowed to bump but just don't make head high contact which Viney obviously did.

The question is did Viney bump or brace?
Both were running directly for an unpossessed ball, at the last moment the ball bounced in Lynch's direction, could've been Viney's, Lynch went in with his head and Viney braced.
I'm not sure why the powers that be didn't ask Lynch why he didn't gather the ball then pirouette outta there...

But Viney was bracing for impact, not trying to charge through him. Georgiou pushing Lynch didnt help the incident.

Yes Viney looks as though he was bracing for contact but he still hit the opponents head which is now sacrosanct hence the 2 weeks accident or no accident.

Agree Yolo. As Georgiou grabbed Lynch and pushed him forward Lynch also appears to slightly lower himself in a natural reflexive instinct in bracing for contact which contributed to Viney hitting him in the head if indeed he did. If it is the right side of Lynch's face where he has broken his jaw (Whately indicated that in his detailing of the injury) then surely Lynch has done it in the contact with Georgiou. There is no way a player could possibly foresee a secondary collision of heads with another player if the only action both have taken is to voluntarily and involuntarily brace for contact. The whole MRP decision is absolute BS.

Ok so by your theory then if 2 players have a head clash then they must both get suspended? :unsure:
