When ya gotta have amercanised"who do you barrack for" and ad nasuem music etc over the loud speakers ya aint catering to the true footy fan. Where are the chraracters in the crowd, who knew how to create a laugh, with a well thought out comment? ( this still happens at the WAFL).

I'm on the offffence here unk...Unfortunately, our game gets more americanised year by year and the afl has no deeeeefence. If they want to turn our afl game into a cross between basketball and gridiron that's ok. Just leave the traditional AUSSIE rules that is played in the WAFL alone. Hey there's an idea for the fatman..perhaps we could let players throw the ball from line to line :silly:

Unka unfortunately this can't happen at our games here in Perth due to the lack of opposition supporters in the crowd.
Subi hold something like 45,000 I think,if you go to an Eagles game there are generally 40,000 Eagles fans. And the opposition fas are segregated to the city end of the ground.
Can't happen.

Hmmm thing is a/man, i cant remember the last time i heard one of the 40,000 fans of the how side say anything clever against a visiting team or particluar player

The afl in its greed demolished all the old VFL grounds, with it went a lot of tradition for the true footy fan, as it now caters for the "theatre/event" crowds, who are transient at best. In those days there was mud and sluch everywhere, but the still kicked decent scores. Now the grounds are like bowling greens, with no wind etc (eithiad), and crap 9 or 10 gaols wins a game.

I'm actually quite keen if the next time I go to Melbourne to head over to the Western Oval. The dogs have apparently been fixing it up to host their Footscray VFL games.

From what I hear, they had a scratchy there a few years back with no scoreboard! They borrowed a portable one from the local netball club.

Its good to see these clubs, who are clubs and not some business entity owned by the AFL or a media outlet hold onto their heritage and build something from it.

There is also some talk of rebuilding Punt road as a smaller ground when they host the interstate teams with lower crowds.

Western Oval was a classic , remember that big revolving add sign they had behind the goals.
