Suns / Richmond could get interesting - Suns.
Blues should get over Power but not overly confident.
Cats over Crows, too many injuries for the crows. But then they have the Dangerfield!

Oooh, Kangaroos over Bombers, should be a given.

Melbourne paying $1.90 to win by more than 11.5 points over the Saints. Could be easy money.
Eagles over Bulldogs. Leaning on home game advantage.

Very flat opening round - just 4 games.
Cant remember a full opening round, the Afl seem persistent with these half-cocked opening rounds. After Friday nights game, not much to get excited about really.

Sydney a given to win. Easy ride for them every year with GWS. Ridiculous .

I too agree that the split rounds suck. But as we have all discussed numerous times before - AFL is a business not a sport now.

After Friday nights boring game of footy it was quite a solid (split) round I thought!
Man it was so good to see GWS beat Sydney!!! The played absolutely phenominally and it will make every other team stand up and take note. They are going to be an amazing team in another 3-4 years. It was one tip I was more than happy to lose.
GCS also played amazing. Prestia was outstanding, Gaz was... well, Gaz. Feel sorry for Martin doing his AC joint early in the first. After Dixon failed the concussion test I thought the Tigers would run all over GCS (being that they only had 2 on the bench for a half!) but credit to GCS they dug in deep in took home the choccies. Special mention to O'Meara, this kid is going to be one of the 2 best players in the AFL in 4-5 years.
Port v Blues was a solid game for the first 3 qtrs but Port showed their superior fitness in the last qtr by over running them. Walker should get suspended. The Hoff was outstanding, especially in the second after he got cleaned up. And Robbie Gray was great in the last. Ollie Wines is the other player that I think will be one of the best 2 players in the league in 4-5 years. Absolute gun.

GWS were amazing, Buddy did nothing but get jilted the longer the game went on.
Gold Coast & Port also impressive. Fremantle look scary good.
Looking at the fixtures GWS could be 3-0 and Collingwood 0-3. That would be a turn up for the books


A full set of games for round 1 is a must next year. If the AFL are going to split rounds, then split them in about round 7 and 14. Splitting the opening round is completely pointless. Also, no game at the MCG??? I am sure the AFL are starting the season early to get the jump on the NRL. Judging by the crowds it didn't work.
Collingwood have 78000 members, but only 37000 showed up. And Carlton have nearly 60000 members, yet only 24000 showed up. Very average planning by a so-called elite organisation. Thank god the GWS gave the code a genuine highlight.
