i think the AFL are losing their common sense. there seems to be weight gathering around an early start to next year. talk is they will start early March next year with no Nab Cup.

most of us will be happy to see a few scratch matches, then the real stuff. the Nab Cup just drags on too long. But the AFLs reasons are because they are threatened by NRL getting the jump on them. But why are they worried about that? it will not make any difference to crowds at brisbane, gold coast, sydney or Gws realistically.

the AFL would be better off starting the season later and finishing it later. Football should not be starting in the horrendous heat of early march. the players would be better off starting mid-April and finishing mid-October. The coolest times of the year in australia. They worry about NRL getting the jump on them. On the other side of the coin, what about an entire AFL final series having no NRL to contend with. i think the AFL are too focussed on rugby (isreal folau an embarrassing example) when they should be doing the right thing be its assets (the players). its amazing in the USA they have a ton of various sports that overlap. they just focus on their sport and let the games roll on. The AFL just react, chop, change and contradict themselves at every opportunity. its quite bizzare. But regardless i think we should get out our sunscreen and floppy hats for round 1 next year  its ridiculous i think, given the heat.

I agree. March is far too early to start the season, especially in WA where temps can still reach over 40C. Fuck the NRL, no one watches that shit anyway so we would be much better (as you stated) starting it mid april and carrying through to mid october.

I've always thought that starting the WAFL season in mid March is madness. There have been temperatures in the high 30s and high humidity often for those first few rounds, whereas October is quite mild , so why not start a few weeks later and have the Grand Final in the 2nd week of October? The AFL is a business and will do whatever pleases Foxtel and the sponsors. Player welfare is not high on their priority list.

I think the WAFL and AFL chiefs have to get in touch with what is happening to the weather....the seasons are moving, so the fixtures should move with them before some poor bugger dies.

But then Mike Brady will have to record a new song called "One day in October"!! :woohoo:

The AFL are a shambles at the moment, and after watching the 7.30 report on ABC just now it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of pricks, I hope they start in February and cook themselves!!! Joke of a drug f###ed comp really, I am actually enjoying watching this shambles unfold by the day, and Hird their answer to Lance Armstrong

this is absolutely correct, the seasons have changed immensley over the past 30 plus years.

and this is a wafl problem too. if the Afl start early march, the wafl will align in-sync with them. that will be demanded by the afl, and the wafl will follow suit. this is also a big point of this discussion. its a ridiculous option based on rubbish theories. football is a winter sport. it is fast becoming half summer, half winter, its not good enough.
