If you read the articles on the AFL website you would have read the article regarding Gary Ablett Jnr. comparing him with greats of the game and whether or not he is the greatest player ever.

So is he? Do you think he is the best player to ever grace our TV screens?
Keeping in mind that he is a certainty this year for All Australian, and will probably win the MVP and Brownlow this year. He'd have to be close.

The best 2 i have ever seen is him & his old man. Gaz junior is more consistant but the old man's highlight reels are just incredible. If you had to chose one to pick in your team i would chose senior only because of what he could do, the massive grabs, kick 60m both feet, he kicked 14 goals twice in a match from half forward, not sure Junior could do that & he performed on the biggest stage of all in the biggest games.
think about this who would you rather play on? Gaz junior for sure!

this was debated (again) on tv last night.

ablett senior once kicked 14 goals in a game at the mcg. he kicked 8 of those from a wing, and the other 6 goals while "resting" at full forward.

like the commentators said even Ablett junior couldnt do that.

Senior was just a freak, Junior a complete workhorse. Both different players but utterly sensational. its just comparing brilliance with brilliance. like everyone we loved watching ablett senior, and now we are fortunate to watch ablett junior thrill us for another era. what a footy family in terms of raw ability.

If you say Ablett Jnr is more consistently great compared to his old man, then Ablett Jnr would have to be considered better.

When we think of the champions of the game, it is the champions that are good all the time for a long time. I think Ablett Jnr, because of this, is the better player. Now that they have played the same amount of games, it makes it a bit more of an even comparison, although the huge difference (and one that is always going to make this argument an argument) is their position on the ground and their roles in the team.

I loved watching Snr play.....i now love watching Jnr play. Lets hope Jnr has another little Gary Jnr 2 and we all get to watch him play.

Good debate. Being a cats man senior was the best player i have ever seen. Ablett jnr is more team orientated and a complete professional. His old man went at about 85% rat power as he was a lazy and often "couldnt be bothered" type player. I remember towards the end of gazza senior he played at subi in the mid field of all places and was BOG , and tore it up. The eras too are so different Ablett senior would have spent half the season out suspended these days, such was his intent.

It really is a question where there is no right or wrong answer. I reckon in another 25-30 years time we will be asking who is the best player out of GAS, GAJ and GAJJ haha.

Ablett Snr wouldn't have the same impact in todays game, wouldn't be allowed to with team game defensive structures that we see over the past 10 years. Ablett Jnr would have dominated back in Snr's day because of his work ethic and intensity like he does now.

Actually NO,Nathan was as gifted if not MORE than Gzza Jnr, even as a kid. What Nathan did inherit was his old mans attitudeto the "AFL LIFESTYLE"

Who was the best of the 2? Endless argument - both brilliant. I have an everlasting memory of the 89 VFL GF against Hawks. Watched it at a small tavern - about 150 people. Gaz turned the casual crowd into a roaring horde in that last quarter! Young Gaz will do that one day.

The media 24/7 intrusion into each players breath, would not have suited Gazza snr, to the degree, i serioulsy doubt whether he would have played IF he was around the same age know as he was when he was a star. Complete nomad, the hawks disposed of him becuase even back then he was a non conformist. Reckon gazza senior was 99% talent 1% work effort. If gazza senior had had juniors professionlism ...scary!!
