Headed up to Kingsway to watch the Kingsway v Scarborough, alternatively the Subi Youth v the Subi Vets clash. Must win for Scarborough, probably the worst hit by the Covid games as they miss 2 chances against Collegians. Uni miss 2 games against Wembley, but they've just about done enough to ensure they are playing finals and should get a double chance.
Kingsway dominated the first 15 mins or so without translating that to the scoreboard, kicked 4 or 5 points before Scarborough had a look in their forward 50. Both teams kicked a goal each before, in a sign of things to come, Kingsway kicked a late one going end to end from a kick out to take a goal lead into the first break.
2nd quarter a bit of an arm wrestle, although Scarborough missed 3 or 4 golden opportunities to put goals on the board through very poor decision-making as well as very poor skill execution in the forward 50.
To the 3rd quarter and Kingsway turned it on, 8 goals to 0. Damage was done with run and quick ball movement from the back half, then the small forward's pace and precision kicking cut Scarborough to shreds. 4 or 5 of the goals went to a Kingsway player/s getting behind the defence, with Scarborough getting their press completely wrong, or just not having the legs to be able to cover the Kingsway run and ball movement. Too little too late, could hear the call come out for Scarborough to go one on one late in the quarter, damage was done though.
Last quarter was a bit ho hum, some nice work from the Scarborough full forward though, kicked 3 or so, but the game was all over. Just about curtains for Scarboroughs final chances and Kingsway continue to press for a double chance.
Bit of an aside, but geez was like a cacophony of crows around the ball form both sides squealing for free kicks. Just get with it and play footy fellas, leave the whinging for the soccer players.
