Not a great day out for the club today. We must be the unluckiest club in the comp as far as injuries goes. I reckon we would have given the comp a shakeup if we could get our best 22 on the park every week. Fingers crossed we get some back sooner rather than later.

7 points in a half of footy? We need to face the harsh reality that, minus our our recruits (and Avery), we are no better than last year. With close to our best 22 we would be 4th at best, 8th a worst, but competitive. Take out 4 of our best players and we are the second worst team in the comp, for the 4th consecutive season.

What can you say when two of your starting mids, Newick and Cachard, get 8 touches between them? They're young, and may improve, but they are miles off, at least without Constable and Simpson to feed off. Sub-par games from Byrne, Cooley and R Clarke also show how important those recruits are. Stubbs looks unfit and disinterested - 4 kicks being his return for the match. Despite the knock on him, surely Gray's weight of numbers has to be rewarded? 38 touches in the reserves today, albeit again heavily weighted towards handballs. Wills looks to be building, but no one else in the reserves looks to be pressing for a spot. Maybe Kemp in for Stubbs?

Today demonstrated exactly why we have been given salary cap and points cap concessions. Without 3 of those 4 A grade recruits and Avery we were very ordinary and got swept in all 3 grades. Souths had quite a few missing as well but toyed with us at times.

The final margin flattered us.

I drove four hours yesterday morning to watch this game and I will share three observations. I could share many more but this will do.
1. The worst game of football I can ever remember seeing.
2. $20 entry into a sub-standard ground with no seats, no undercover area to speak of and one public toilet that I could see. Heaven help anyone elderly or impaired.
3. Player welfare? Harry Quartermaine’s head hit the base of the goal post late in the game with a thud that could be heard around the ground. He was clearly stunned but not a single person checked on him. Not a trainer, team mate, umpire. Nobody.
As long as there’s a bouncy castle and blaring music, the organisers of this competition seem content that they’re doing s good job.

Spot on. Piles Park is an abomination.

Q got smashed all day. Got no protection. That front on contact sandwich he copped was a disgrace.

SF could have won by 15 goals if they didn’t play that crazy sideways, chip kick, ring a rosie style when they’ve got a fwd line of giants. Nutz.

I heard Zac Moody is back from his season in the NT where he played well. Fitness shouldn't be a concern. Might need to rush him straight in. Mature age body 185cm. Davis was hobbling late in the game. I thought Cooley looked a bit proppy as well. If we count the round 4 bye then Simpson has served his 2-3 weeks out for a hammy so hopefully he is back for the Claremont game. Potentially Clarke too.

With the state bye coming up after Claremont game I can’t see them risking Clarke or Simpson this week. It will be more likely they will return against EF on the 25th.

We ain't beating EF I can tell you however Claremont is a winnable game but not with that team that ran out on Saturday.

A big positive I saw on Saturday was watching 2023 joint Clarke medalist Riley Wills in his second reserves game. We've got a bewty here and staggering how Subi let him slip through their fingers.

We have lamented the off season disappearance of prominent colt Kalib Dempster-Park but Wills looks like he more than covers his loss. I expect him to be playing league very soon. He is going to be a midfield weapon.
