'Bease' -- a SD victory over Subi in 1989. Do you remember it?

Having a look at some of the side -- Shine, Caton, Hetherington and co., amazing you never made the finals that year.

We we’re knocked out of the finals in the last round that year AR much like 2015 where a very late goal by Jake Murphy from CL with the last kick of the day vs WP knocked us out in 2015.
Vaguely remember that game in 89 AR was at Subiaco Oval we always had some good clashes at League HQ in the 1980s.
2 players from Subiaco that caught my eye in that year were a very skinny wingman named Dean Kemp and a pardon the pun heady half forward called Brett Heady.
From some of the other sides a 16yo Glen Jakovich was colossal in his first season of League footy sheesh being only slightly younger than Jako i I couldn’t believe how big he was and to be dominant in League footy at that age, Willie Rioli from SF was also eye catching at only 17 he was a star that year and another 17yo Greg Turner who didn’t really go on with his footy. Peter Mann & Brendan Barrows at CL, Brad Rowe at EF were a few other youngsters to catch my eye in 1989.

BH- I think the competition had a lot more depth in those days which your post illustratted perfectly. The Subi side lacked key position players aside from Clint Brown.

The expansion of the VFL since 1995 has weakened it a lot
The sport also has trouble with its 'participation rate' because players are not rewarded for playing league football in their home states. I mean the Tallon Ames and Aiden Parker of this world.
