Southy what about 1982 mate? Not sure what happened that year at SF as you bounced back to form again in 1983.

1982 was the year the legendary John Todd finally found the way to beat Claremont & South in big finals mate

But South never recovered from losing the fabulous Maurice Rioli - not that there was ever going to be a replacement for the wizard

The loss of Maurice out of the guts was a huge hole to replace as was the enforcer Basil and Joe McKay at both ends of the ground.
Did the likes of Daryl Vernon and Stephen Mount come over from Richmond as some sort of exchange for the great Maurice?

I believe if we had won the 1980 gf we wouldn't have won a hat trick of premierships.

Once Maurice signed the form four at Richmond in late 1981 , Brownie had a few very good footballers fall into his lap like Chris Stasinowsky , Darryl Gillies ,Stephen Mount , Willie Roe , John Hayes , Craig Edwards , Paul Arnold , David Hart , Brian Close
But it was too many to blend in such a short time mate

I think the relative failures of 80 and 81 ensured our successes in 82-84.

BH and Swan 42-- you are both correct
Here is a question: If you linned up SD's 81 side against Cl's, which would be the better side?
