The decline seems to be being ignored by the media etcetera and etcetera. Strong action should have been taken long before this! It's quite clear attendances were steadily increasing nicely prior to the 2010 season. Then the 2010 to the current season has seen attendances fall off the proverbial cliff !!
Have noticed the attendances for last weekends matches are most embarrassing.
Some of the matches cannot even attract a thousand spectators! Whilst another minimally and minutely just scrapes past the thousand figure. Given the population of the metro area reportedly being over two millon, those attendance figures are bloody hopeless.

Inoticed that the crowd for the Claremont East Perth last Saturday was 901. Given that both teams had a chance to qualify for the finals still and with a new stand that (according to Bazza) offers full protection from the rain is this just another example of how much trouble the WAFL is in?

And to preempt what is as likely as night following day the crowd for the West Perth Swans game was 950.

And Lathlain Park was tops with 1200.
After last weeks fixtures the total attendance was only minisculely better than at the corresponding time of last season. And last seasons figures were nothing to become excited about.

BC wrote: wag...I don't think you can compare the two as Chelsea has a global brand and following to boot. I think around 50,000 tickets have been sold but the weather might scare a few away from actually turning up. To compare it to a WAFL match is like putting an Ashes test to grade cricket in Perth...they're completely different beasts.

55 522 was the attendance, that smashes the WANFL GF record of 1979...lol

BC when they played here in the 70s 15,000 turned up at the WACA, fact is the population and peoples tastes have changed , WAFL and maybe Aussie Rules best days may well be behind us.

On current trends average attendances will be around the 500 mark in 10 years time.

It is July, what do you expect from attendances. A few rounds ago there were good crowds.

One would of thought with Perth's renaissance their fans would of been out in their droves....Perhaps a few hedging their bets, expecting it to be all a nice dream.....disappointing to hear the SD fans have dropped their bundle then Bazza...no doubt with EF this weekend a few al jump back on the wagon.....

You do realise the game was at Joondalup yeah?

Before one throws stones at SD crowd numbers you would think you might look at your own clubs poor figures beforehand especially considering SD are uncompetitive for the 2nd time in 3 years, never get the Good Friday, Foundation Day etc Games and yet comfortably sit in the Top 2 for attendances both at home and away whilst your club which has sat in the top 2 for 3 or 4 seasons get the absolute luxury benefit of playing on all the public holiday games and yet unbelievably still pull less of a crowd than SD both at home and away!
