While swan suffers with repetitive negativity, he does have some valid points. I am at the stage of turning my back on anything WAFL because of the topsy turvey situation. AFL reserve teams, Subi with their privilidged position, WCEP that have enough money to buy flags in the future, a ridiculous fixturing and only 2 teams at this stage, that will be able to win flags in the foreseeable future. I will continue to be a paid up member of EFFC because they need every cent they can get, but I won’t bother with the WAFL. After 60 + years of following our local comp, I seriously can’t think why I should continue. When you bang your head against a brick wall, sooner or later, you going to say “ no more”.

Same with me. As an EF supporter, I went to the first derby and have not been since. Will not go again this year to ANY matches and as I have stated before, that also means people who used to go with me, including my son, don't go either. My boy prefers basketball now, and he may well have preferred it anyway , but no longer going to the WAFL nearly every week like in his younger days, no doubt wouldn't help the cause.

I remember the great feeling when we won, and the sick depressing feeling when we lost, but now I really feel nothing. no desire to torment myself on the weekend and no stress. And, as others have stated, the lack of interest in general by the media and AFL driven ideology by the masses, helps me to forget about the once loved WAFL!!! I remember when my son was playing for Attadale juniors, he was the only player in the team, that at training had a WAFL jumper on (sharks), all the rest had AFL, as that's all they know. The parents seem to only care about the AFL as well, so even from the start, the WAFL is behind due to lack of the parents being interested. You see it at WAFL half time junior games, as soon as the kids finish, the parents take off!

I am just not interested anymore. as simple as that!!

Given the current score at Basso I expect that DW has already gone home or has resolved not to go to another WAFL game.

And I mean no disrespect to Perth supporters. You have supported your club through some very tough times and deserve some success before the end comes to the WAFL competition.

Stayed at home and cooked a feast for the missus today 42....just couldn’t get myself up for footy today and my gut feel about how it was gonna play out proved true. First time ever on a work free day footy has come 2nd to the misso...the struggle re wafl for me is real in 2018. Hope it’s just a phase.

DW unfortunately I feel the same way. Even in 2016 I didn't have the feeling that there was no hope that the situation was irretrievable. Unless there is a change in direction and focus from Gavin Taylor and the WAFC the WAFL is doomed.

Agreed...standard is also dropping off rapidly in my eyes which is what makes Subi look so good imo

I suspect you may not have been supporting Swans for as long as I have but I am sure that you are well aware of our club's ups and downs so my comments aren't as a result of our poor season this year. To put the WAFL 2018 season into perspective according to Subiaco supporters have a significant injury list yet they are first and unbeaten in the league and first in the reserves and first in the colts.

Since Birth in 73 and consciously since 79

Thanks DW. Take note BC et al is not just me. Sure I might be the most vocal but you are kidding yourself if you think it is only me that is disillusioned with the current WAFL situation.

Thanks Ruddiger.

Take note again BC it is not just me. If it was just me, there would be zero consequences to the WAFL. The fact is that it is not just me.

Yes but you're the biggest whinger on here. If this was 2010 you'd be up and about chirping like a schoolgirl who's had a shandy.

If you had any idea at all about football you would realise SD did not even finish on top of the ladder in 2010 let alone had won 90% of their games over the previous 5 seasons like a certain current other side has!

FYI 42

Am I ....
Disillusioned with the state of the WAFL? - yes
Despise the alignment? - yes
Disappointed in my clubs current position? - yes
Disgusted with the reasons why we are failing? - yes
Do I blame Subiaco for the state of the WAFL? - no - they are an extremely well run organisation both on and off the field hence their long period of success we have all had to endure, the rest of us need to observe and learn from them if we want to dismantle this unprececedented period of dominance they have over the comp
Do I blame the WAFC for the current state of the WAFL? - 100% yes
Do I see a long future for traditional WAFL clubs if it involves alignments 100%? - no
Do I think AFL will be the number one football code in this country 30 years from now? - no
Do I think I will see another SD team win a premiership in the next 20yrs? - highly unlikely if we don’t inject new proactive well connected personnel in to the fold - same old same old ain’t getting us anywhere
Will SD & Subi folk ever get along? - maybe if I put on some free grog but highly unlikely

Good post DW. Articulate, succinct and tells it like it is which is refreshing compared to your SD brethren.

I agree with most of the above. Sure our club have made mistakes that has lead to our current situation is but the advantage Subiaco has financially over the other non-aligned WAFL clubs has unequivocally been a major contributing factor in their dominance for many years. Do they use that to their advantage is also indisputable.

Assuming there are 9 teams in the WAFL in 2019, if you polled WAFL supporters and asked which teams would make the finals in 2019 the clubs the majority would mention would be:

Subiaco, Peel, East Perth. That would leave two positions and potentially only one depending on what happens with the other WA domiciled AFL club.

Some good posts here.

As a few on here may recall, a few seasons ago I tried fending off the constant knocking of Subiaco for their dominance of the comp, Im no longer prepared to do that, and tbh I think i was misguided in my orginal stance, one teams ridculous lop sided dominance of the comp has gone a long way towards killing it, not soley of course , its been a dead an walking since 1987.

Ive lost interest ,the comps a joke, ive only been to a few games this year, didnt bother going yesterday watched on TV , afterwards walked away with a shrug of the shoulders, really couldnt give a stuff anymore.
The personal dilemma for me is if i make the decison after 32 yrs continuous membership to end it next year , it personal family sentiment that keeps me going having had family involved since 1920,

Some smart well connected people on the Subi board along with those on the periphery who are all doing their best to ensure the future financial viability of their club. 2 whom I know personally and can only admire the passion and drive they have to make their club a success. Hard to begrudge them success for the effort and personal investment of time they give along with their ability to make shit happen. They also don’t get held to ransom by people who have their own personal agenda at the club. No passengers on and off the field.

I understand their dominance is helping kill off the comp and in past years there has clearly been some suspect behaviour. I hate getting smashed by them as much as anyone but I refuse to believe that we must just bow and ask for outside assistance to defeat them. Learn from their model and challenge our own clubs to become as effective from top to bottom. If we don’t develop ourselves and accept mediocrity within we will always be fragile fodder against this mob.
