WP v Sub

Battle of the battlers. Early in the season, however these 2 teams seem destined to anchor the table this year. West Perth have a couple of quality performers in Baker and Rotham, Subi more workmanlike, with Beverley a standout in defence. If the big red head up forward can catch some for Subi, could be the difference, however tipping West Perth by 15 points

Perth v Claremont

This one will tell us where Perth sit. Demons have some x factor all over the ground, however will miss Ninyette up forward. Claremont all class through the midfield, with Banfield feeding off Guelfi, and Seton adding even more polish, plus Waterman able to push forward if needed. Perth to stay with them for 3 quarters, Claremont by 36.

South Freo v East Perth

Match of the Round, with these 2 to finish in the top 3. South have some big bodies all over the ground and will get plenty of ball in the fifty. Big Mitch needs to start grabbing them, and Millar needs to up his intensity. For the Royals, the usual suspects Powell-P:epper, Wright, Bayok hold the key, however they have great support from the under agers in Starcevich, Stack and the tall skinny ruckman. Royals by 11 points.

Swans v Peel

Swans will have to much pace and class for Peel. Swans by 60 points

Great stuff Mr Comerford, On the subject of the Peel Colts, there was a rumour and it was only a rumour, that abt 10 or so Peel colts had been told to move on after some behavioural issues, given their strength over the last few years at 14's,15's and 16's it seems they are a bit under strength in the colts.

Also it is great to have someone much more erudite than I doing some colts commentary, thx

Didn't realise the Academy boys would be missing, so a bit of an amendment to my tips. Goddard, Seton, Waterman missing for Claremont, still think they'll get enough ball forward to come out on top. Claremont by 10 points.

Powell-Pepper out for East Perth is a game changer. South by 12 points.

No Rotham for West Perth, sticking with them by 15 points.

Hura gone for Peel, Swans by 70+

3 out of 4, with the 1 missed could have gone the other way.

Friday night saw Subi coming out breathing fire, and putting the first 3 on the board, and looked like it could be a long night for the Falcons, as the game was played mostly in Subi's forward half. West Perth managed to scramble a couple of goals late in the quarter, and from quarter time on it was all the Falcons. Baker works extremely hard for West Perth, needs to clean up his disposal though, a lot of boys did their bit on the night. West Perth should take a lot of confidence from this game, however don't think they have enough depth to challenge for the 5. As for Subi, Beverley went down in the second quarter, hopefully nothing too serious, Breman's inherited some of his old man's kicking depth, Lawrence continues to battle hard, however it's looking like it's going to be a long, fruitless season for the Lions where they'll be looking for little improvements and wins within their own game throughout the year.

South had a comfortable win against East Perth, seemed they were unable to cover the loss of Powell-Pepper down back.

Swans by 67, if not for poor kicking in front of goal, could have had my 70 plus result.

A close one at Lathlain, with Claremont managing to hold a 2 goalish lead throughout most of the day. Last quarter the Demons were the team that played with some initiative, taking the game on and pumping it forward, and eventually getting their noses in front. Claremont hit back, and with 2 minutes to go got themselves back up. Perth surged forward a couple of times, but were repelled by Claremont, until the last kick of the game, ball went to the coolest player on the planet, 3 defenders bearing down on him, did not miss a beat, snapped over his shoulder, game over. Well done Demons.

At this early stage I would have Claremont a nose ahead of East Perth and South, Perth and Swans a touch behind those 2, East Freo breathing down their necks, Peel and West Perth on par with each other, and after Friday night's performance, Subi a distant 9th.

Good post GC and it looks like being a pretty even Colts season with all teams showing a fair bit of talent barring that embarassing $cumi mob ..maybe they should be demoted to the Amateurs! B)

GC....looks like Perth got it lucky with Cl 3 potential 1st round draft picks in Goddard, Petreski-Seton and Waterman absent don't you think?.....pretty sure the colts comp number 1 ruckman, midfielder and forward in the comp would have snuck Cl over the line some how....not too sure how you have Perth ranked as high as you do.....but time will tell I guess......

Of course Perth were fortunate that those 3 weren't playing, Perth were also missing 2 very important players in Roe and Ninyette. Also remember Fisher is playing in Perth's league side. Teams will have to cover the loss of their better players throughout the year with 18's duties, and after they are finished League commitments.

I did think Claremont would still get over the top of Perth, however Perth play a very physical style and it eventually wore Claremont down. Perth finished with more run and were taking more risks in the last. Still believe the Premiership will come out of Claremont or South.

I can't contribute anything abt the colts, had to run water for the 16's and given the knees and heat I was forced to have an early shower.

The 16's game was an absolute belter tho', had everything that you want out of a game of WAFL, it would have done any level proud.

Souths came up trumps after the EP boys had lead for abt 75% of the game. They were just a little bigger in key positions abt a 5c difference between the big lad at FF and out FB.

The game had fast transition, good marks outstanding foot skills and the biffo was alright ( no harm done and no-one hurt).

Congratulations to Souths but a huge and hearty pat on the back to the EP squad, I was proud of them (and a little of souths as well)
