Just over 149,300 people attended the 23 Qualifying fixtures. That being the lowest total for over 10 years!!
And yet in 1980, the total attendance for that season being over 780,000.
Things are simply going pear-shaped in the so called super duper modern age!!

wag...do we know what the total viewing audience of televised games has been this year? surely that needs to be factored into attendances and the growth or otherwise of the WAFL.

Including WAFL Home and Away , Finals, State Games, 1 Million people watched footy in WA in 1979.

Far less people are going to footy now even with Dockers and eagles attendances.

The crowds at wafl in the 60's and 70's were exceptional considering the population.Shops closed at 1pm on Saturdays. No national comps for any sports.People told me fifty years ago to watch out for soccer.Considering our population now we can't all blame it on the Afl.People have a lot of options to do on the week end.People went to live footy fifty years ago because hardly any footy to watch on tv. nowadays you don't have to leave home and you can have your pick of what takes your fancy.

BC to try to have a rational debate and to be logical one needs to determine what parameters you are to use in measuring the positive impact the Ch 7 telecasts have had on the WAFL.

The most obvious metric would be has the been an increase, decrease or no impact on the attendances at WAFL matches?

Have the clubs had a revenue increase in terms of sponsorship dollars because of the Ch 7 telecasts?

Has there been an increase in membership numbers of the WAFL clubs?

Have the bottom lines of the individual WAFL clubs improved due to the Ch 7 telecasts?

Was looking at the actual match day attendances.
Not sure of any televised viewing numbers? That info might be released at seasons end, maybe?
Apparently, a similar tv deal for SANFL matches in 2014 generated an 89 per cent increase in viewing audience and a 5 per cent increase in match-day attendances, it was claimed. But an 89% increase on what? What is the figure based on?
Obviously the Wafl has not seen an increase in match attendances. Wonder what will happen if there is another 17% decrease in crowd numbers next season? Or even 5% to 10% less crowd figures would be a disaster! Wonder how low can crowd numbers go?

Obviously the TV increased is based on former ABC audience numbers that were quite frankly dismal.

Yes, the attendances have fallen, and for mine as time takes it toll they will continue to drop, financial impact will be virtually nil on the clubs, most of their income comes from afl football dividends and alignment doll from wafc. These will increase in time.

Bazza on what basis can you assert that the revenue streams for the clubs will increase? Look at the review guidelines it is all but EXPLICITLY stated that they could not give a stuff about the WAFL competition and clubs.

Inflation will push draft fees, thats a given. Alignment deal is up for renewal after 3 yrs, Wce will probably give ep the arse and move to perth, quids will be up for increase as well.

I see that they are advertising free entry for the preliminary final and grand final for kids. Looks like the WAFC have gone into complete damage control because even THEY know that they are a looking at an unmitigated disaster in terms of attendance at the WAFL GF.

Heaven help the WAFc if it is a wet day for a Subiaco Peel GF.

I see as predicted by myself (and others) Subiaco have strolled into another GF. Apparently the only ones who thought there was any doubt were the naysayers that Subiaco's dominance is a problem for the WAFL (otherwise known as Subiaco supporters) and of course Bazza.
