the same as SANFL for a start - waited.

In 1986 a near broke WAFL desperate for a turn around got sucked into the VFL offer, who themselves were deseperate for a massive cash injection. WAFL and Brisbane bears fell for it and paid a mint.

Guess what it was an epic fail, both the bears and original privately owned eagles failed.

2 years later the entire thing was bankrupt, Indian Pacific was in receivership - delisted for the ASX and the WAFL went cap in - broke to the State Gov crippled by debt and with most WAFl clubs insolvent and with huge debt on the two tier stand at Subi, the Burke Govt, stepped in and agreed to save the entire carcus. Tax Payers funded a 75% by out of the Eagles Indian Pacific and handed the WAFL another 1 Million interest free to pay off their loans, meanwhile the agreed that Subi Oval would be taken up and handed to the WAFC rent free, on the proviso the WAFC was formed and they had ultimate control of WA Football with an all powerfull Act.

Baz -- thanks -- I meant more directly about the founding of the WA Football Commission in 1985?

Exactly what Bill Walker said, we should have waited a few years and planned things more on equal terms with the VFL

The WAFC was founded in 1990.

In 1985 it was still the tradional WAFL Council of Presidents.

Given that the pnly lifeline left for WA Footy in 1990 was funding via the State Gov under the auspices of the WAFC, they really did not have much choice, remember at that time there was real talk of the WAFL folding financially, due the shambles.

As Duffield sayd in this excellent article - the Gov has bailed out footy over the last 25 years , often at the tax payers expense, one wonders if the money would of been better spent on the health system and pensioners care.

It shouldn't be an issue, but how do you explain the total Flip in opinion polls of a State Government, which should be in it's death throes?

LTRFTP,the latest poll was in PerthNow or the Sunday Times.

Now,on with the Stadium Management Issue,.....

Mate, I was taken back a bit on the LNP 2PP resurgence as you, then I actually contemplated a LNP win next time around..and I thought if that happened it would be like the Keating win over Hewson!

Baz -- Thanks, sorry thought it was 1985. Yes I have read that article. Well let us hope the paper does the right thing and supports the Commission if it moves against WCE. You know my fear: the Commission will use 'lack of revenue' to justify major changes to the WAFL, as it will be a softer nut to crack than the two AFL clubs.

I think there was a report done on football around 84-5?

I couldn't give a Flying Frig about the Obstruction the AFL Clubs would give us here. Both Major Parties MUST Act on this Vote and Remove The Executive, before they Completely Destroy US!

No Compromises from the Clubs here either. If the Executive pulls any more Bullshit, they gave to go!

They will just send each WAFL club a small cheque to not buck the system and shut up, just as they have done since 1986 when they paid for the votes to enter the WCE into the VFL.

Under a WAFC model there is no chance the WAFL will get more or any help in the future, their only chance is to go alone as a comp but risk then losing money given to them from the WAFC.
They simply are up shit creek without a paddle.

My feeling is the WAFL will bare the brunt , it will be an excuse to cut funding and remodel , the two AFL monsters wont let it hit their bottom line.
