There's been a bit of talk for some time about our colts competition and concern that we're falling behind in terms of development and there's always the talk around about the afl forming an elite colts comp and all that. I for one think the wafl clubs do a fantastic job in regards to youth development.
But maybe the idea of our wafl clubs losing the colts and reserves isn't something that should be just rejected without a bit of a thought? There is some things that could be of benefit to the clubs in that plan possibly.
I'm not saying I'm in favour of this just merely raising a new discussion, would be interested to hear other views on this.

TOO perhaps I can pose a couple of questions and see what the responses are:

(i) what is the raison d'etre for this 'elite competition? Is it to develop players purely for the purpose of getting drafted and if it is what impact does that have on players who don't think they can get drafted? Perhaps Grump can give some insight into that.

(ii) surely having colts' players involved in WAFL league clubs have the benefit of seeing, ralking and participating with players of far greater experience than them?

(iii) is this purely an EMPIRE BUILDING EXERCISE by the WAFC and their underlings to ensure their continuing existence?
