Poor decision in my opinion. 5th in a 9 team competition invariably has only a 50% win loss record and in some cases it could be less than that. Claremont made the top 5 this year with a 10 win, 10 loss season and a moderate percentage. Teams qualifying for a finals series should win more games than they lose, otherwise you are rewarding mediocrity. As the guys said above, it is purely a TV/Money based decision.

.without a top 5 this year that intersting battle between Cl and SD would not of happen, so I guess it did keep the season interesting far longer for those two teams a wee bit longer than if it had only been a final top four.

ah well it at least gives the lesser teams of 2015 in SD, SF, EF & Perth a sniff of finals footy in 2016....... ...........but I do agree that a top five only rewards mediocrity.....especially in a 9 team comp. :pinch:

Mikeh I am sure you are aware as all the rest of the WAFL supporters that without an unusually high injury toll three of the top four positions will be occupied by Subiaco and the two WA domiciled AFL clubs' reserves' teams. That would leave one position available for the remaining 6 clubs. Obviously, the WAFC's decision to continue the final 5 is to try to fool supporters that all is right in the WAFL competition because there will be two positions available for the G6 clubs to fight for each season.

too true BH but like I said all that would do would be to reward shitehouse mediocrity....something a top 5 does.....hopefully for WAFC sake, where ever SD finish on the table is where they draw the line for finals.....because without SD apparently 20 million fan base filling the ground come finals time, the WAFC are missing out on a shed load of prospective moola!!

The top 5 delayed my eating of mothballs for the year Freezler, I`m still trying to get the taste out of my mouth. Top 4 for me. I would rather not make the 5 than get knocked out first week like Claremont, just delays the inevitable & a waste of time as know one will have a snowflakes of winning it from 5th, maybe a prelim at very best imo
