The WAFL had an ideal chance to promote the game to thousands of local AFL TV viewers on Sunday, the Perth v EF game was ideally scheduled to lead into the WCE v Port game.

I watched and could not beleive how bad East Fremantle oval presented on TV, it was highly embarrasing for the league, to see a camera zoom into a ruckman/center square who in the background had nothing but a pile of brown dirt and sand with weeds growing out of it was a total disgrace, this happened pretty much all through the game. The rest of the ground ( largely empty looked pretty ordinary as well.

If we want to have half a chance of getting people along to these venues, the clubs should be told to get together with their councils to get the grounds to improve their presentation for a larger TV audience.

Agree totally BAZZA

Why is that we the viewing public seemingly are the only ones to see this marketing failure and make this embarrassing observation

Pity the $300,000.00 job holders in WAFL corridors of power couldn't un-shine their seats, get out and do something other than f....k the game up for all those who love it.

Mind you Channel Bully probably haven't told them to consider this point so we'll have to wait till Dad tells the kids what to do...

Growler I thought Bazza was saying clubs responsible. How you can blame WAFC for how clubs turn out their grounds. At some stage WAFL clubs need to take some responsibility for doing something to promote their clubs and comp. maybe a busy bee by the volunteers to pull a few weeds and a lick of paint. We do at ammo and junior level as want to provide an environment kids and parents want to visit!

Yes HH your point of the individual clubs taking responsibility for their grounds is valid
But as soon as you have a National television outfit taking this game to the state audience and beyond and this supposedly governed by the WAFC then its a marketing and promotional exercise that's failing in the whole and this rests with the overarching parent body.

Now whether that's to shake up the grounds keepers, be it the WAFL CLUBS THEMSELVES or volunteers or other so be it.

I don't understand why some person from the over paid offices cant get out and walk the grounds the week prior to any televised game and give an assessment of its visual anomalies and have them seen to - yes - something that any club body should also have the desire to do rather than be embarrassed on national TV

Most WAFL supporters consider East Fremantle Oval to be the worst WAFL ground by a long way. Yesterday it looked like a garbage tip with no atmosphere, took away from what was quite a decent game of footy. My understanding is that the EF council have rejected all redevelopment proposals that the club have put up over the last 10 years and now the Sharks are moving towards a ground relocation to Freo when the Dockers move. If that is still the case why would the club and the WAFC tip money into a ground that the council probably want to bulldoze for housing developments?
I think the question needs to be directed at channel 7 scheduling a match at 11.40 am on Mothers Day at an Oval which has no atmosphere.

very true Mikeh, it aint no secret that the EF council want EF out of Moss St The land is indeed worth a fortune, so where's the incentive for both parties to invest?....as you so rightly say Mikeh the Moss St weeds won't be a problem for much longer with EF bunking up with SF.......by the way Bazza what are SF gonna do with all that Freo Oval concrete when Channel 7 come visiting....or are those televised games scheduled at night?.....

poor choice of a game for televising anyway I reckon, perhaps they should of moved the game to Lathlain for that aesthetic look the WAFL needs to promote the comp.

Your probably right, it would be the worst ground going, but what was presented yesterday was absolutley disgusting, as you stated, it looked like a garbage tip, I must of been to any number of Country ground throughout the state, and I have never witnessed anything as poor as that, it ws highly embarrasing.

As far as scheduling goes, well the early start accomodated viewers flow in to the big Eagles game, for the WAFl it was pretty smart as it gets probably the last half of the game to a huge amount of viewers, as they wait for the big game, sponsors get good exposure as well.

For mine it was an opportunity missed.

Spot on Growler, people don't operate in Silos, surely with added commercial exposure some genius up at WAFC or at EFFC could of thought ahead and improved presentation, it really is amatuer hour and it showed in spades ( or perhaps lack of them) on Sunday.

I reckon the weeds and the large sandpits in the outer are the 2 most aesthetic parts of Shark Park!! :P

Games have already been broadcast from Freo Oval and on both occasions it presented vastly superior than what I observed Sunday.

EF oval is a A class reserve so they wil have trouble selling it off. regardless the excuse that they may or mayn not be moving sometime in the future doesnt wash and get them off the hook for the disgrace that was presented Sunday.
