Reading Dirty Weekenders recent message about Leon Baker and Phil Narkle got me thinking about which player I loved most as a kid?
I would have to break it down. First was Peter Eakins. I wore his number on my back, I guess I was about 6 - 9.
Then Peter Featherby, I recall the thrill of his return from the VFL later. Probably Gary Buckenara was next when I was around 14-16. We didn't have much to cheer as kids at Subi around those years!

He was the classical dashing 'blonde bombshell' who caught my eye as a real young tacker. He played for Subi in the late 60's and was recruited to Collingwood in the early 70's. By memory he came back after a couple of years but had injury problems. No doubt older fans can correct me here. I think he became the WA Hotel Association (or whatever they are called) president but I believe has passed away a few years ago.

My other childhood hero...Robbie Dann from the Dandaragan Football Club....when he used to kick his 80metre barrels from the centre square the Burley football would literally sing....or maybe I should say scream....heard many years later he was a bloody good player too but as a kid what more could you want than seeing a ball take off like an aeroplane....much respect for Mr Robbie Dann

Feathers early on
Bucky a bit later
Crutchfield & Zanotti as I was a fullback
Big Keene although he was often injured

Then nearly as old as or older than these blokes but
Kemp and Heady
Then I was too old to look up to anyone and this guy was smaller than me - Ali Pickett
