Not sure of his name , only glanced at the article in the Worst.

Apparently resigned for the reasons we all know about the current state of the WAFL.

Seems that some of the rats are starting to understand what they are doing to the WAFL!
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

Hey Grump, great article. Brian Atkinson is his name. During the seasons 2000-01-02 and so far in 2014 East Perth have lost on average 3.5 games a season. Between 2003 to 2013 without the alignment they lost on average 10.40 games a season. They have finished no higher than 4th between 2003 and 2013 other than 3rd in 2003 which many consider the left over period after the 2002 premiership. It could also be considered they also had assistance from 2009 onwards after Micale, Hynes, Braun, Narkle and Hickmott have all come via West Coast in some shape or form.

Sad that it has come to this from a veteran WAFL supporter. Cooper didnt even have the balls to make a comment. WAFC just do not listen to the people-they should. Well done and congratulations to Mr Atkinson.

Brian was a Critic of he Alignment in 2001-2001 which was doomed to failure
YET THEY HAVE DONE IT AGAIN. HA the power of the AFL :(

A host club review conducted for the WAFC by Brian Atkinson (WAFC historian), John O’Connell (Claremont FC president 1992-1997) and Alan East (football writer) after the 1999 season concluded the arrangement was a “… significant and serious impost on the integrity of the WAFL competition.”

The system was watered down slightly in 2000 and 2001 with only interstate recruits being required to play for the host club. East Perth, now under Micale, became West Coast’s host club and won consecutive premierships. They defeated East Fremantle in 2000 and beat Fremantle’s host club South Fremantle in the 2001grand final. The system was abandoned in 2002 and East Perth again won the premiership with a win over West Perth in the grand final.

Well done Brian on your actions and lets hope it sinks in but I doubt it because the WAFL supporters have given a big thumbs down and they just dont care.

A extract from the article read full article above

Some words from Brian a man who knows what he is talking about

"My passion for and interest in West Australian football, extending over 60 years, has diminished significantly following the return of the aligned-clubs arrangements," Atkinson said in his resignation letter. "That did so much damage to the WAFL just over a decade ago, until the WAFC of the day threw it out as a failed experiment.

I'm 100% sure he would be taking the exact same stand if West Perth were 2nd on the ladder, or even still in contention for the finals.

sc dumb and dumber comments about 2009 and micale hynes and braun coming from wce.they were not being paid by wce. Were do you think a lot of the current crop of coaches come from
schofield wce
malaxos wce
harding wce&dockers
haselby dockers

just because you have played for the wce does not make you a good coach or gives a team a advantage.Braun coached the colts and they were very poor.muddy waterman another who did not cut it as a wafl coach.

People need to keep one thing in mind about the East Perth Eagles link. Even in the very early days, EP has benefitted from the connexion. Turnbull is regarded, rightly as a stalwart of the club, but he certainly did not start out at Perth Oval. Claremont was his home club and they lost him because the Eagles resented Neesham playing him in the reserves. Just imagine it EP supporters -- when Subiaco held you 3.2, and you failed to score at the Subiaco Club end at all -- this was in 1999 -- you might not have scored anything without Turnbull/Eagles. It is no coincidence that, after such a pathetic performance, EP became over night converts to the alignment nonsense. It is all very sad. The demise of EP since 1978 has been the outstanding feature of the WAFL, no flag for close to forty years, no money -- according to the club -- and no long-term future, at least in terms of a club which is independent of the whims of an AFL club and the WAFL Commission.

I just hope that the demise of EP will not bring down the entire competition. Mr Howson himself talks of the need to revert back to an 8-team competition, forgetting that a compromised EP may not be in the re-vamped league. Some how I can't see the 7 WAFL clubs doing them any favours in five years; even some of the EP supporters will be sick of being damned if they win and hated if they lose.

Well done Mr Atkinson.

pathetic post.another conspiracy theory.
both the eagles and dockers have moved players when it suited them or the development of the player.

peter melesso was moved by eagles in late 80's to east perth from claremont
turnbull from claremont by eagles to east perth in 1991
brent connolly was moved by dockers from west perth to perth half way thru the year as they already had 3 ruckmen seaby (wce)robbie warnock (dockers) and chris kuenen and couldn't get a league game.
ashley arrowsmith was moved by the eagles from the sharks to peel as they had too many afl listed players and they wanted him playing league.
casy sibosado was moved from claremont by the dockers to perth
the idea that afl listed players should be spread thru all the clubs does not allways work out.i do hope we eventually go to a real wafl competition and the eagles get a stand alone team and peel become a dockers stand alone team.it will eventually happen.

Lets not forget how the Eagles prematurely finished the WAFL career of quality West Perth ruckman Ron Skender who was still the best going around at WAFL level at the time by insisting Mark Seaby have his game time. It took Seaby another 10 years before he could play at Ron's level consistently if indeed he ever could match Skender's quality on any football stage.
