3:- 7mate is keen on replicating the SANFL setup here in WA , but probably only 2 venues will get coverage according to Chris Wharton of Ch7.

I think most of us would agree with number 2?

all the clubs should have allowed this to happen in the first place.someone mentioned to me that east perth and one other club voted for the stand alone teams but obviously vested interests wanted to keep the status quo.as far as i am concerned once the eagles&dockers draft someone they are their players and if they want stand alone teams let them have it.it will be fairer fo all eight traditional teams when they all don't have any afl listed players provided they get the financial backing from the wafc.Let's hope it happens next year.at least then we won't have any byes.also if peel become a proper dockers team and lose their zones the eight other clubs will have more juniors.

As if we haven't prostituted the WAFL competition enough already. Fundmentally those who advocate this proposition want to:

(i) further reduce the income of WAFL clubs who won't have their home games broadcasted by reducing the amount of sponsorships who won't pay when their product and/or company won't have any TV exposure and alienate members and supporters who only go to home games;
(ii) Enhance the financial coffers of the clubs who play at the chosen grounds;
(iii) With respect to a tenth team it STILL FUNDAMENTALLY means that players will be playing against their drafted WAFL club. How many players would like to see NicNat play against us. Where will the other players come from for the 10th team? Are we going to stuff other competitions to sate the Eagles' contempt for everything non-Eagles and AFL related?
(iv) We KNEW that there was going to be a bye when Peel came into the competition. Without being cynical is the push to eliminate a bye coming from the Eagles and/or Dockers;
(v) East Perth made their decision to get into bed with the Eagles and will suffer as a consequence of that decision.

Hopefully yhe 7 broadcast deal comes through, the value of commercial TV exposure is monumental and cant be matched on ABC, it is shocking ( though not surprising in reality) that the viewer audience on ABC for WAFL has dropped to 5000, netball would get more,

I would say the two ground would be Leederville, ( obvious as it already home to 2 clubs) and Fremantle - with some foresight EFFC will make the move there and a game will be hosted there every week.

Its not the 80's anymore....

The whole scenario of the SANFL no longer owning the licences for the Crows and Power has made them change the way they do things over there for sure.

There has been talk of the WAFC having to hand the licences back for the to WA Clubs to the AFL Commission for a number of years.

Local Footy in SA on 7mate has been a winner with larger ratings for SANFL games over some AFL games also broadcast on 7!

Eagles supporters are not going to support East Perth. Eagles supporters will support an Eagles side, much the same as Crows supporters have done, whilst pulling some huge crowds and renewed interest in the SANFL.

If the WAFC, and G7 clubs do not act now, then if and when the AFL licences are revoked/bought back there will be no WAFL without the money these clubs generate. Lets be honest.

The best thing the WAFC could do is sell off the WCE and Dockers. last year the WCE were valued at $24 Million and the dockers at $19 Million, sell them, take the funds 40 Odd Million and invest it in a WAFL Future Fund with the earnings supporting local football for ever, the current set up is a ripp off.

WAFC would then be wound up as well.

The SA Footy Commission is the SANFL.

With the WAFL and WAFC as one they will no longer need to administer the AFL sides as was originally formed to do in around 1989 if I remember correctly?!?! - if the AFL licences are returned to Melbourne of course.

It is of my opinion if the WAFL was top of the roost, then I would think more money and time would be invested into junior and community footy.

I do believe Swan Districts in a recent season, invested more money into the community than any other Australian rules football club in the country.

Sell them back to the AFL,,,and be done with it.

Reap the $43 Million, invest in a capital future fund administered in trust by a board of governors.

Even at a basic rate of 5% PA - thats 2.1 Million a year in earnings,

Piss Peel, off thats $265,000.00 allocated each year to each club.

WAFL independance and future assured,

As I understand it - the statement issued about coverage locations (limited number) is also dependant on sponsorship coin generated
More coinage equals more grounds telecast if you read the lines

Revenue or dividends earnt from telecasts would be evenly divided among all clubs - one thing we might see more are double headers

The model of 7mate telecasts will mirror the setup in the SANFL

They are successful in SA because the croweaters hate the Viccos & most of them don't bother watching games in Vicco between Vicco clubs

That is correct SOUTHERNER, they need $1 Million Sponsorhip to get it going AAMI are interested . but dont forget Ch 9 tried befpre and could not find the Million dollars sponsor.

This must be sorted urgently , as Ch 2 will almost defeinatly pull out at the end of the year, they cant justtify the cost with just 5000 viewers now.

Good on Swans for investing back to the grass roots levels. Do you have a rough breakdown of how that money was spent and for instance which companies like BHP etc deserve some praise also for any contributions.

People in WA aren't as passionate about football as they are in SA. Never have been. You only have to watch old games on the SAfootball Archive youtube page to realise that. Same with cricket actually. Remember Adelaide's population is quite small compared to Perth's now as well. We have an estimated 1.97 mil here now and that is a 2013 figure.

I'm not saying the 7Mate thing won't help but don't expect the same kind of numbers.

EDIT: 1.27 mil in Adelaide in 2013.
