WCER are not up to WAFL League standard. How about making the League a 9 team comp (without WCER) and make the Reserves a 10 team comp (with WCER)?
WCER might be competitive in the Reserves but even if they are too good no one will care if they win a flag in the Reserves anyway.
The club with the league bye can have their  seconds play the WCER in the Reserves. Colts will have a bye when their reserves play WCER (just like now when the league plays WCER)
WCE can focus on development and rehab in the reserves which is about the right standard for the bottom end of their list anyway.

Apart from the obvious management issues at WC, the last 2 years lot of injuries (and prior to that Covid) are the main reason behind the deplorable form of the WCER. They were undefeated in their pre-season games this year and we were concerned that they were about to do a Peelmantle 2016/17 on the comp. If WC can get their list fit and well for next season, you will see a very different WCER team imho, maybe not challenging for finals but certainly much more competitive which is all we really want to see.

Need to go back to the old system based around an 8 team competition with 21 round season

Get rid of Peel and WCER - WAFL players drafted to WC or Freo play for their WAFL club if not selected for an AFL game and interstate recruits get drafted out to WAFL clubs based on previous seasons ladder and an effective player points system being introduced - the current points system is a joke

The Eagles would not even have been formed if clubs had thought they were losing access to their local players

it just hasn't worked - it takes so much compromise for them to both exist every season
but it won't change , WAFC know full well Mandurah is a dead the moment AFL departs
WCE aren't going to spread players - they've never managed players well

Even though I’m sure it’ll never happen, I’ve always thought this to be a good option for both AFL clubs.
Think about what the aim is for each AFL club’s reserves team. It’s not to win premierships but to keep their players in one group in real match conditions to push for league selection. For the two AFL teams to have their Reserves in the WAFL will always compromise the WAFL competition as their purpose for playing will always be different to that of the WAFL league teams.
Each of the WAFL clubs has a Reserves team. What is the aim of each club’s Reserves team? It’s not to win premierships but to keep their players in one group in real match conditions to push for league selection.
Having the two AFL teams play their reserves teams in the WAFL Reserves would mean leaving the nine WAFL clubs to have their league teams compete in a competition where all teams have the same goals. All eleven teams playing in the WAFL Reserves would all have the same goals.
It’ll never happen. The AFL would never let it happen. The WAFC would never let it happen. The WAFL will continue to be a compromised competition and will continue its slow, painful slide into oblivion and irrelevance.

The WAFL Eagles have been granted improved recruitment and total player payment allowances to take effect from the 2024 season.

A series of amendments by the West Australian Football Commission has increased the WAFL Eagles’ TPP to a maximum of 60 per cent of the base WAFL clubs’ TPP, which currently stands at $245,000 per season.

The Eagles have also received a slight increase in player recruitment points – up to 70 from 65 – and the removal of the three-year barrier will allow the club the chance to retain delisted WA players with fewer than three years’ service on the AFL list.

The amendments will bring the WAFL Eagles into closer alignment with other WAFL clubs’ rules.“The club has been working closely with the WAFC to receive improved recruiting and total player payment allowances in order to field a more consistently competitive WAFL Eagles team,” General Manager Football Gavin Bell said.“We look forward to improved performances next season which will also provide better opportunities for our players’ development.”

It's time to give the Wcer some concessions. With injuries there top up players ,just don't cut it.
Word is they want another alignment. Can't see an Afl reserves competition on the horizon. The VFL is fully loaded with teams already.Unless pay TV bankrolls
AFL investing plenty into the AFLW.
Freo/Peel are a great Wafl club.2 Flags and always competitive. Can't see why the WCEr can't be like Peel.
Thanks for your post DG.

gtr: Subi should take over the alignment of the WC -- bet we do a better job than Peel. Peel are the problem in the competition. Last every year has been, and will be, Peel's position without the AFL players. Strongly linked to all this, of course, is that, so long as Peel exist, the WAFL will not help the Perthfc. In other words, the WAFL has had two very weak teams for a long time. Subi's price should be: the abolition of Peel; some extra help to the Demons. SF or EF can do the Peel alignment; to be honest, lads and lasses, there is no point giving an alignment to a weak club, such as, Perthfc.
The above should give us:
8 teams
2 alignments
no Peel
restoration of old zones, crucial for all the clubs south of swan, plus SD club

Ark think Subi are too strong a club for an Afl alignment. There one of the clubs that would challenge ,the alignment teams.Strong in all 3 grades.Work there zone really well.
The Wafc wont let Peel fail. They have invested to much into Mandurah. But could lose a chunk of there zone to South's.Then Perth could get some of South's zone like Armadale and surrounds.
