Firstly, I wonder what will become of Tasmanian local footy when the Tassie Tigers get going.

Secondly, If a Wafl team entered the AFL, it would have a negative effect of the Wafl - for one thing the Wafl team in question would be a reserves team like Port Adelaide's Sanfl team. It would no longer  be a real Wafl club which would hurt the competition. Even a new made-up AFL team would presumably take more eyeballs away from the Wafl, or perhaps just steal some of the Eagles and Dockers. A Bunbury team would probably be our best bet for limited effect on the Wafl. Paul Haselby made this point in the West last week. But I imagine the AFL would like to make more use of the  stadium.

How many members would a Subi AFL team be able to sign up? I think I'd rather go and watch the Subi WAFL team play than stay home and watch Subi games from Melbourne.

Neither would be Subi, we went through this in 1988. PA have been conned, in fact, reduced to kicking one goal in some SANFL matches.

Considering the amount of list cloggers we have at the moment across the AFL I wonder where the hell they think the talent is going to come from? The bottom 15 on each list are mostly not AFL capable so this is only going to dilute the game.

Great that 45 new kids will get to play at the elite level but clubs are going to overpay shit loads more as well now. A player worth $350K will get $700K at another club easily.

Viper, I agree with you mate, that standard is poor across the competition and i think we have to many teams already for the talent to be very competitive.

Right now as we enter round 8 there are probably no more than 4 teams that can win this year.

Adding two more teams is only going to further throw the draw out of balance and is also going to dilute the talent pool.

WAFL and SANFL are not the comps they used to be, The VFL is basically a reserves comp and there isnt a lot of talent coming through each year from QLD, NT and Tasmania.

As I said on another thread, the extra teams are for one reason only, more content for the TV broadcast rights holders, CH7 Fox & Kayo. The more content, the bigger the broadcast deal. But inevitably the quality of the product will drop away. As PH mentions only the Pies, Brisbane, Cats and maybe Port are a realistic chance of winning the flag. There will be a fight for the remaining spots in the 8 but the rest are just making up the numbers. Freo are the biggest underperformers, cant see them finishing higher than 10th, WC, NM, Hawthorn are basket cases and will be for a few years yet.
Cant see any current WAFL club being a feasible option as the next WA AFL club, I'm sure Joondy think they should be, but have shown they are a financial liabilty. Subi has the finances but not the supporter base. Bunbury is the only option, would be similar to Geelong, but would have to travel each home game to optus until they had a 25k + stadium down there. But imagine what that will do the EP and SD zones, it would be a disaster.

Great to see Tasmania with there own AFL side. They have always punched above there weight, producing footballers.
I Think Wa and SA will both get a 3rd side.
Gold Coast relocate to Wa.And join with West Perth up at Joondalup
Norwood gets the 3rd AFL licence in SA .And plays in Mt Barker about 40km out of Adelaide. Was a great venue in Gather round.
That just leaves NT.So St Kilda or North Melbourne or Hawthorne move up there.

SS, id probably include the demons in that list ahead of Port and maybe Brisbane but you're on the money - everyone else is making up numbers.

To me the even scarier bit for the comp is Melbourne have Freo's first and second round pick as well as their own, so they can package up a hep of picks and target ready-made players, or even throw them all to someone like WCE for a top pick and get one of the best talents around

most people in Tasmania not buying the Liberal / VFL new stadium and team deal - it is looking like the only supporters of it are Liberals / VFL & their cronies
the Tasmanians know it isn't worth polishing a turd
