I reckon it's gold that the league has an Alcohol Policy yet it's sponsored by Carlton Draught!

Darth, it doesnt matter who the league is sponsored by, every club has to abide by their liquor licence or they loose their bar and their primary income of making money.

If clubs dont want to sell a carton that is their choice, and your options are buy a beer, or go elsewhere to buy a beer.

My club has never given a carton to the opposition after a game, and in all my time in the ammo's and the Sunday league, that wasnt a practice that I have come across.

Usually if you want beers after the game, you go into the other teams club rooms and socialise with the opposition and pay whatever prices you need to pay to have a frothie with them.

If it was too much to pay $96.00 for 24 beers then just pay $4.00 and buy one each. really boys

I cant see what the problem is here, your just taking it out on Southern River because that is their prices for their bar. Im sure Spider would be keen for you all to worry about winning in round 2 not what it cost to have a few beers after round 1

Darth Raider and Vicko 21, I think I wanna come and play in your grade/comp where you get showered in free beer.

Get off the pipe boys and give the bloke a break. 3 years in WAAFL and many more in SFL and I can only recall one free carton of beer from a host club. And that was because our team was traveling a bit rough at the time and we didn't have enough players so we did the ring a round and grab a mate till we had enough to get out there so it wasn't called off. the preso apreciated that and came in with a box for us boys. Bloody modstrength though.

SR obviously don't want to risk their licence/only source of income and rightfully so. I belive they have had a couple of suprise visits from liquor and gaming.

Hi guys,

Just reiterating my original post in this thread that there was an official policy which was voted on at a presidents meeting a few years ago which set a price of $40 for clubs to sell a carton to opposition teams. It was a binding policy at the time and I was really just asking if it was still in place, which obviously it isnt.

Too bloody right.

If you're going to come to a game of amatuer football at a grassroots club, you're not going to get the royal treatment. I appreciate that you were willing to buy a carton fron us but the reality is we couldn't sell it to you. You would've been better having a couple of beers at our rooms and then travelling to an actual bottle shop to by your carton. Its better not to sell cartons at games purely because not everyone will drink the same beverage, hence why you buy it from the bar. Secondly, it is important to us to make sure our visitors are not having too much as we have had police hiding around the corner hoping to catch drink drivers. Its a duty of care. So nexct time you go to a lub, buy a few beers from the bar and enjoy it, you not only get what you want, but the club does too and does it by the rules.

I respect your question scooby, and I think things may have gotten lost in translation but at least we are all understanding now and I look forward to buying a beer at your club next time we play you

Let's be honest here, if you really wanted to provide the hospitality to opposition teams that is the standard, rather then hiding behind a policy, you'd find an alternative.

Perhaps you could tell the opposition team they can buy 1 lot of 24 tokens for $40-50 which would allow players to go to the bar and get a Draught.

That's not difficult.

Basically you just need to get them in your licensed area and be served individual beers. There's nothing stopping you from offering those beers at a reduced rate.

You's are on crack I've never experanced this at any club I've played for or against. I just wading into the argument because I've never heard this in 20 years of football. Back when things were more relaxed our club would give the home team a carton but that went out the window with aall the liquor laws and drink driving crack downs and such. If they were giving one to the away team it certainly wasn't getting repayed when we played away.

I don't think I ever received a free carton either but we certainly bought them at carton prices, not by the individual bottle at $4 a pop. I wouldn't expect clubs to dish out free cartons but I'd suggest offering cartons at carton prices is seen as standard etiquette.

That rule was probably when you could get a carton of VB cans for about 25 dollars. Go to a bottle shop now guys and it costs you more than $40.00 for most beers. Logic says no club will sell you a carton of beer at cost prices, when they have to get it delivered, use power in the cool room to keep it cold and pay or suppliment the bar manager in some way for his work.
