Once again some big upsets. I would've thought that coming to the business end of the season the teams down low on the ladder would drop off but to their credit they are not only being competitive but getting results which should build confidence for next year if they can carry that on for the next 5 weeks.
Amazingly Cockburn have notched 2 in a row against top 5 teams after being winless in the 1st 11 games and gave Jandakot their 2nd defeat in a row. The boys from the swamplands have hit a rough patch after a solid runof form but their spot in the 5 looks safe at the moment with other results going their way.
TA's couldn't keep up their recent solid form and narrow the gap between 5th/6th to half a game, going down to a Secret Harbour team building momentum. I suspect TA's had a few out because their all conquering reserves suffered an unexpected loss. The Harbour are now in the box seat to get the double chance and still have the opportunity to gain 2nd spot.
The other massive upset was The Park getting the job done away at The River. Good on the Park boys for sticking tough in what has been a disappointing year. Southern River on the other hand have now dropped 3 in a row and 4 of their last 5. Their spot in the 5 is safe but that's not much compensation for current form.
The 2 other games went as expected with Brentwood getting back on the winners list with what looks to be a less than convincing win over Wembley and The View getting the job done against the odds at Roleystone on their Auskick oval.
Our ressies had a great win with only 17 on the field after half time and in the league game we only had 20 after a couple of late withdrawals. Was great to have 8 colts aged players in the win,3 1st gamers, which all goes well for the clubs future.
We came out with a good 1st qtr leading 5 goals to 1 but struggling to get used to the small oval. In the 2nd qtr it was a scrappy affair and our intensity dropped off, allowing Roley to outscore us 5 goals to 2. We obviously weren't happy with a narrow lead at half time and came out with much better effort and attitude in the 2nd half outscoring our opponents 11 goals to 3. The game was mostly played in good spirits but I really don't get how a teams attack on the player or the contest changes once the game is out of reach or why your 1st instinct isn't to go for the ball. I guess it's easier to tackle than be tackled.
Anyway, would be good to hear thoughts and the reviews of the other games. When certain teams lose its a bit quiet on here.

Brentwood controlled the game most of the day, some inaccurate kicking probably made it seem closer. Hit the post twice in the first quarter, and once again in the third, Wembley also handed a goal when yours truely diceided to kick the wrong way and pass the ball lace out to their full forward!

Basically 5 goals up at quarter time, we slipped in the second a bit, was about 3 goals at half time, think about 5 goals at 3 quarter then won by about 6. Wembley kept coming and kicked three straight about 5 min mark of the third quarter, but we were lucky enough to be able to maintain control.

Couple interesting results on the weekend, did southern river have a few missing?

Looking forward to the challenge of roleystone this week!

Just also like to mention the howler of an umpire desicion when Wembley full forward took a huge specky to just be pinged for push in the back, was a great mark!

Ozzie park, one game off fifth spot, would be interested to see if they can't scrap in after a very slow start

I didn't realise they were so close. Could come down to the last game of the year when they both meet. We will have to be on from the get go against them this week.

Yeah round 18 has a couple blockbusters with op vs jandy plus us vs secret harbour, could be battle of 5th spot and preview of first final! All that a fair way away though, right now focused on roleystone this week, another must win game for us to not waste last weeks effort !

Yeah we were ordinary again. Started like we finished last week - conceding a match winning lead in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Took the gloss off a day when our Colts knocked off 2nd placed Noranda and our Reserves had a confidence boosting win.

Looking forward to getting back to the Swamp this week. Plenty of rain and overflowing sewerage should make us feel right at home (although our Colts are in Ellenbrook argh!)

What happened to TA's this week? Was it their FIFO week?

A quick ladder check with the tippers! Mad Dog and FL87 are still setting the pace 5 ahead, although they won't be for long if they tip like they did this round in the future. Both the river boys tipped the Cobras so maybe they knew something we didn't about the Cockburn boys. The winner of the round was Screech with 4 tips, and the only team to let him down was his own. Footblr also got 4 points with the default away teams also committing to his non tipping strategy.

1. Mad Dog - 2 - 46
1. FL87 - 2 - 46
3. BD 1980 - 2 - 41
3. Footblr - 4 - 41
5. RJ - 3 - 39
5. Screech - 4 - 39

5 Rounds, 25 tips to go, and with the unpredictable results we've seen lately, anyone still has a chance to get up!
