Wesley and Curtin separate clubs, Old scotch .?
Certainly wasn’t 69 clubs then and it used to be harmonious between WAFL and ammos.
Now everyone is chasing a dollar so people have issues with comps who get more money than them

Did the WAFL have a Thirds comp back in your day?

Perth’s population is significantly bigger now than it was in the 70s and 80s, and the Ammos have grown with it. The WAFL has gone backwards over the same period.

Innaloo are still around, have played in the Metro/Mercantile FL for years. Old Scotch became Collegians? City Beach, Floreat and Edith Cowan merged, along with Wesley and WAIT/Curtin but they still exist.

Maylands haven’t been in A Grade since late 80s, early 90s so that’s 1 A Grade club in the last 30+ years

Mark what I understand Is that PFL gets roughly half of the funding that 1 WAFL club gets from the WAFC - pretty incredible that the PFL operates with such a small level of support and yet 69 clubs field around 10,000 participants whilst 1 WAFL club spends roughly the same amount on their league players if they operate within the WAFL salary cap.

How much do wafl clubs get from the wafc ?
How much does the pfl get from the wafc ?
How much does each club get from the pfl ?
Why do ammo clubs care what money wafl clubs get ?
Is the ammo clubs responsibility to get a better deal from the wafc or worry about what wafl clubs get ?

Go educate yourself on how the WAFC works, start with the power the WaFl clubs yield at the voting table to influence WA Football before embarrassing yourself with comments like that.

1) ~$450k Per Club + Operating Costs absorbed on their behalf
2) ~ $240k
3) ~ $900 per team - indirectly (ie. each teams share of PFL contribution) which is applied as a subsidy against the Insurance, Ground Hire, Comp Admin and other charges they have to pay to put teams on the park
4) On the whole, they don’t. Many would welcome some extra support though, so they have one less thing to worry about and can instead focus more effort on the local charities and other good causes they have support

Given that the parliamentary enquiry is looking at whether taxpayers money is being used effectively to support all levels of footy in WA and that there’s only a finite amount of money available to do so then it’s going to be interesting to see if the current funding breakdown changes moving forward.

PFL clubs don’t receive a cent directly from the WAFC - all money received by the PFL goes to running the PFL. The same for the WACFL, WA Masters and Metro FL. None of these competitions get a seat at the WAFC table - only the 9 WAFL clubs and 2 AFL teams get that privilege.

Thanks for those figures Sam. I wasn't aware of the specifics.

I come from a Club which is financially secure, has no outstanding accounts and has money in the bank both for the development of our facilities and for a 'rainy day'.

Like most Clubs, we will likely operate at a loss this year, albeit a small one.

Raising the money to operate each year is becoming more difficult and sponsorship is becoming harder to find. The increasing cost of team registration and umpires impacts us as it does all Clubs. Bar and canteen trade are down over the past couple of years as our players and members struggle with rising unemployment and the increasing cost of basic living. This has meant we have had to raise membership and ball fees, but there is a limit as to how much people can afford. We continue to try and support our colts age players (both male and female) with low fees to try to make access to playing football easier for both them and their parents.

Personally, I don't want my Club to receive WAFC money - nor do I seek financial support from a WAFL Club. We should be financially independent.

What I want to see is for WAFL Clubs to get out into the community, visit us at least occasionally (game day, training night, Committee Meeting - I don't care) - at least acknowledge our existence. Our local WAFL Club hasn't won a premiership in 30 odd years and (apparently) blames a poor metropolitan zone for their lack of success. Can they not see that continuing to operate the way they have has not brought success and that maybe they need to change the way they do things?
