I hate to keep harping on about him but when you have a number 3 who averages in the low 20s away from home your batting line up are always going to be pushing shite up a hill.
Maybe I have listened to Chappelli too much over the years who has always demanded the best batsman in the side bats at 3 but Khawaja wouldnt even be in the best 20 batsmen in the country once he boards a plane to head overseas.........now wait for the inferred racism calls from the usual lot!

No racism in it - no footwork , heart of a split pea & a lazy almost disinterested fieldsman - there were two almost runouts where he didn't appear to want to run with Bancroft as well
Problem for OZ cricket is that the cupboard is getting bare now

Smith has to bite the bullet and move up to 3 for the next test, then S Marsh at 4 and Handscomb at 5 . Handscomb hasn't had a bat for weeks but he couldnt be any worse than Khwaja.

Pretty disappointing to see Bancroft allegedly get caught ball tampering , numpty for doing it but this goes higher imo he's been designated to do it could be serious repercussions to come of this if found guilty .

They can always play the big Queenslander at three in place of Usman, but, I agree in an ideal world Smith, the captain, should bat there.

This has massive implications for Lehmann and Smith if true because its obvious that Bancroft would have been under instruction from them. Lets not mince words here, this is outright cheating and if any charge is proven there may be a few players having a rest in the next match. Not that its doing them much good in this test mind you.I've had the feeling that Lehmann has lost the plot in this series and this was highlighted by his bizarre press conference yesterday when he called the behaviour of the South African spectators "disgraceful". I thought that word would have been a better description of Australias batting yesterday.

Just checked out the close up photos of Bancroft, it looked very much like he was holding sandpaper? WTF???? How in hell did he think he could get away with that when there are cameras everywhere in test arenas. I can't see how Bancroft can avoid a lengthy ban from test cricket and if I was Renshaw I would be packing my bags right now.

Why would you do it?....very disappointing, complete embarrassment......for all Australians....pride in wearing the baggy green....my arse.....if senior players are responsible for this then heads should roll....going to leaving a huge stain on Bancroft's career....sadly he is an idiot for letting himself be the scapegoat....huge low for Aust cricket....thank Fark the footy is back....

Freezin -- well said -- if he had any honour he would resign the captaincy

The sad thing is Bancroft is Australia's leading run scorer this series, under the rules Bancroft only gets a one match ban, Smith admitted at the press conference that he and the leadership group were all in on it, interesting to see what happens from here I would of thought the captain would have to step down.

↑ As Peter said, Australian captain Steve Smith has admitted that his side deliberately tried to tamper with the condition of the ball on the third day of the third Test against South Africa at Newlands on Saturday in an orchestrated attempt to gain an advantage.
Australian bowler Cameron Bancroft has been charged by the International Cricket Council. His fate is yet unknown, and shouldn't be the only one whose charged!
Bancroft was spoken to by the on-field umpires regarding a small yellow object that television footage appeared to show him take out of his pocket before shining the ball. He was then shown putting the object down the front of his trousers.
Then again, why didn't the umpires simply change the ball?
Too many questions remain and must be answered
