Ark was listening to a BBC Cricket Programme on ABC Grandstand. There is even talk of scrapping the 50 over World Cup.Not sure if it's another thing pushed by India.
But there talk that the 20 over game Is putting pressue on the 50 over game.Tests and T20
That last 50 over World Cup in AU+NZ was a great series.Crash Craddock has also spoken about it.Has anyone won the hosting rights for the next 50 world cup yet!!
They just said the viewing audience for this game is estimated at 1 Billion people.

Pleased as punch to see Pakistan win....not only win but win well....even better with dust bowl bullies in Ashwin and Jadeja getting hammered all around the Oval....and Kohli and Sharma going cheaply....understand the centurion getting MOM honours but Amir to me won that game for Pakistan getting Sharma & Kohli out cheaply....well done Pakistan....thought they had played their final getting over England....perhaps India played their final beating Bangladesh...;)

gtr: I wish administrators would just leave sport alone. Even soccer is considerring going to thirty minute halves. What for I ask myself?

Back to the cricket, I too am glad West Pakistan won the trophy; East Pakistan also justiffied their place in the tounement. Whether they like it or not, India has achieved bugger all in cricket since winning the World Cup in 1983. Kapil Dev remains thie greatest player even after all of these years -- Gavaskar was also a good player.

Listening to the Pakistan players interviews. The win means a lot for the players and country. With the Icc ban on playing in Pakistan.
1 Billion viewing audience.Dont think that's the Soccer World Cup or the Olympic Games. But rivalling any other sport. The BBC radio bloke's spoke about the atmosphere inside and outside the ground. And the good behaviour of all the fans.Dont think soccer can. Claim that.

LH -- thanks. The Dutch have had a hard time of it in their innings. Unsuprisinglly, the Zimbabweans will not want to lose to the Afrikaners, not forgetting the need to atone for the big loss to Scotland.

No Tommy Cooper?

Just on the English Dutch thing in Southern Africa, in 1923 the British held a referendum in Southern Rhodesia to make the colony a fifth province in the Union of South Africa. The Rhodesians votted no, out of dislike of the Afrikaners, and a you know, got to keep their own colony until 1980.

LH there was a ABC Radio report on Cricket in Northern Ireland. The Brady Cricket Club.Like the Gaelic sports Northern Ireland will be part of the Irish National Team.
100 years ago Cricket was the largest played sport in Ireland. The locals stop playing because the occupied British troops where playing Cricket.

gtr: that very true about NI in relation to cricket. If you read the Unionist press -- Belfast Newsletter, it always reports the cricket both in NI and the rest of the country. The Belfast telegraph, which is read by both communities tends to avoid the sport.

Hopefully this will change slowlly over time
