Suddenly died from a heart attack a month shy of his 90th birthday. A true legend of harness racing in Australia when he and his mighty pacer Village Kid were kings of harness racing. What a bloody good horse Village Kid was. They had a special relationship those two. Someone should make a movie about it one day.

I remember the night Village Kid arrived. I was there. Was the final of the WA Pacing Cup and Prex Chevalier was at unbackable odds though I still had my dough on him. Prex Chevalier made his customary dash around the field to take the lead and we thought it’s not a matter of if but by how far the Frog. Willie pulled off a massive upset that shocked everyone but he went on to prove it wasn’t a fluke. What a pacer he was and probably wouldn’t have been half the pacer without Billy Horn. RIP Bill and thanks for the joy you gave us harness racing fans.
Get on your bike.

And do you recall Black Irish? I loved that horse, still great memories of its mad dashes, it could make up ground like no other horse I saw

Yes, I remember his Butcher Shop in Hilton, a real local character.

From an era now long gone when Trotting was a huge show in town.

Bill Horn was not only a great trots trainer but a great character for the sport as well.
Who could ever forget his champion Village Kid who won virtually everything on offer both here in WA and Interstate and was the richest pacer for stakes money in the world at one time in the late 1980s.
Black Irish was another top horse Bill trained and he had many other really good ones as well in his stables.
R.I.P Bill

Sorry Frothy no horse could make up ground like the perrenial galloper Mount Eden.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!
