This morning’s ABC’s sports show interviewed Bill Dempsey.  What a great man to listen to with his stories of the past.  As an 80 year old, he’s still quite sharp and has a sense of humour.  What a man and what a gentleman.  Glad to say I went to 2 games when he was playing.
I googled him up and found this from the Yokahi footy show:

I often sit with Bill, we chat while watching the game. If you get a chance to read his book you will see that he is more than a bloody good footballer.

I never knew he had a book Winger.  I’ll get a copy.

reading that Bill has been made the honorary in the VFL's special indigenous round this year as well - absolutely deserved

360 had Bill on their show tonight and as usual, he was brilliant.  Robinson had to ask Bill what position he played…ffs!  Just goes to show the vics know stuff all if it’s outside their pissant little welfare state!!

To be a little fair, the response to the question started out with Bill saying he played forward and a bit back and then he went into the ruck which was the point of the query, came down as key position player and developed into one of the very best rucks in the WANFL and WAFL. I would have loved to see him and Pat Astone battle as they were both similar heights and played the role the same.

might have been forgiven for thinking hosts of a program would have at least known something about a special guest and honouree - but hey that's asking a bit much isn't it

Fair enough Grump.  Just that I get a bit peeved of the “if it didn’t happen in Victoria, then it didn’t happen “.
Every club has has some brilliant rucks, but no one has had a Bill Dempsey.  I think the closest would have to be TI.
