The question is, for me at least, whose problems would I rather have to deal with now, in 6 months and in 5 years. 

It seems that no matter which one you choose it is fraught with danger.

Stalling the opening is going to have one set of problems and issues such as MO and others have raised. Opening too soon is scary and I wonder of some of the places who have opened up early will ever get around the consequences but you cannot stay closed for ever.

I would prefer opening up on Feb 5 but with strict conditions for those not vaccinated but less strict ones for those double dose and boostered (and yes there are sceptics as to the efficacy of one, two or even three but it seems to be working elsewhere).

The differences could be as draconian as having to pay fill cost of ER and ICU, not being into an venue etc with masks and signing in the only ones for those with a valid certificate.

Unless you open up with minimum restrictions you are not really opening up

On the one hand telling us how important it is to get vaccinated and get the booster but shitting themselves at the same time and wanting to impose more rules. What hope do the people have when every state has different rules and regulations and they change at the drop of a hat but still get out there and tell everyone to travel to boost the economy whether that is through jobs or holidays.

Despite Omicron and Delta , I'm pretty sure there has been a substantial change in public sentiment, from the keep us safe majority to the lets move on minority, while the lets move on is still smaller they have grown considerably and I think most pollies are picking up on this and are now reluctant to wind the clock back 2 years to lockdowns and border closures, that said I have no confidence in Mcclown keeping to his 5 Feb plan , should numbers of Omicron go nuts - that will be an excuse to delay again.

Either way we are looking at masks crowd restrictions for 2022 - possibly more event cancellations including WAFL.

Professor Peter Collignon seems to be one of the minority of infectious disease experts applying any real commonsense to the hysteria over Omicron.

He said on Sunrise a little while ago there is an over reaction to Omicron which is much milder than Delta and Alpha and studies shown from hepatitis B was that spreading out the timeline of second and third doses is far more effective long term.

But no these politicians get spooked by the fear mongerers and hit the panic button. I tried to post a recording but the file must be too big. I'm sure it will show up on 7news Facebook page later.

DD yep there is a level of concern, hysteria mmm not sure that is right but concern yes abt the new strain. 

It is different less virulent but still likely to infect and cause issues. Certainly as more information is gathered abt it the opinions change but one doesn't unless you are vaccinated then your chances of getting are high, unless you are vaccinated your chances of needing the ICU are high with both strains and your chances of getting long covid are the same.

I would always put the ABC's drip under pressure against the one from seven any day but then I do not watch 9, 10 or 7 for my news and of course I am a long serving communist from way back!
