7 West Media are taking the piss. Who remembers when The West and the Sunday Times had two editions? The early and late editions and the Sunday Times used to come out around 7pm on a Saturday night, then on Sunday there would be a late edition. pretty sure the West Australian came out late the night before also probably mainly so they could get it to the regions, then there would be a late edition the next day.

Obviously this was motivated by two reasons, 1. competition when there was the Sunday Independent and the Western Mail and 2. they made a fortune out of the classifieds. We all hung around fuel stations and street corners in Perth, some of us even went straight to the Sunday Times in Stirling street to get it straight off the press to get in early to pick up a bargain second hand car or VCR.

Well I have noticed lately the digital editions of the West and Sunday Times have been coming out later and later, sometimes I have waited up til after 4 am and it's still not available. I have written to subscriptions at the West and I was told it is stated the digital edition of the paper is quoted as coming out by 6 am on the day but generally comes out between 2 and 5 am. How pathetic!!

I know for a fact when i first subscribed the digital edition of the paper came out not long after midnight. That was clearly motivated to hook you in, now they brag about how many subscribes they have they are getting slacker and slacker. That's what happens when they have no competition. Not good enough, get off your slack arses and give us an early edition at the stroke of midnight then a fresh late edition the next morning.
Get on your bike.

I recall the premier not being bothered about a certain company having the monopoly. Apparently it doesn't matter apparently.

I’m talking about the digital edition of the paper. Generally same articles but not all. Some articles are exclusive to the paper edition. And vice versa I believe. At the end of the day that’s what we want, the paper. Shouldn’t have to wait until 6 in the morning to get it, that’s an absolute joke.

Why shouldn’t we get an early edition of the Sunday Times at say 8pm Saturday night? Stokes, Murdoch and co are now raking in millions from the Googles, Yahoo’s, Microsoft, Facebook etc…. of the world for their content so using the excuse they are losing money is out the window.

normally get my digital around 1am.
thinking about dumping it though because its become a re-hash of the previous evenings 6 o'clock news and there is nothing new.
the only major plus for me is I get a copy of the Countryman and the regional newspapers.

I thought the whole point of internet news sites was they were constantly updated, rather than a scanned copy of a printed news paper, I mean it's out of date by the time you get it regardless of the release time.

Mate I reckon you are pissing in the wind, the reason they are winding these "digital editions" back is because its the first stage in giving them the flick totally. 90% of people read the news on line or via Facebook or Twitter now.

I think you’re wrong, that’s the point of difference The West Australian has compared to solely online news sites. I believe if they dumped it, it would lose its appeal to be a subscriber. A digital version of the paper is something you can keep and refer back to, the story doesn’t just disappear.

It has that unique look and feeling you are reading the paper. By the way, got mine just after 1 am last  night, funny that.

You think I'm wrong about most people getting news online? Nah.

No I think you’re wrong about them phasing out the digital paper edition. There will always be a demand for that.
