It was a great game of hockey.  There were plenty of positives for the Kookaburras and some things to work on.  The German players looked gutted after the match.  It makes the bronze medal that much harder.

In terms of the game against Belgium I am expecting a score fest.

Really exciting game of hockey and rightly, we now have #1 & 2 rated teams in the world playing off for gold.

It is an outstanding effort to qualify for gold medal match given the Kookaburras have played so little international matches in the past 12 months.  From memory, I think they have only played 6 international matches against the Kiwis.

Just had a quick look at one of the online bookies' prices for the hockey.  I am not sure that they have the prices right for either the gold medal (Aus $1.91 Draw $4.20 Belg $2.88) and the bronze medal (Germ $1.72 Draw $4.20 Ind $3.30).   Belgium should be a lost closer to Australia in the prices.  Similarly, India are over the odds.

Surely they couldnt choke again in a gold medal play off final 42...could they?

Watched a little of the pole vault last night.  As was mentioned in the coverage the camaraderie of the vaulters during the competition was outstanding.  Also, bouquets to the American athletes who have given some of their time to be interviewed on Aussie tv during the games.

It is a completely erroneous claim that the Kookaburras have choked previously.  There is a very fine line between winning and losing at the Olympics in hockey.  Since the move from grass in the 1970s a number of countries have won a gold medal and only two countries have won more than one gold medal.  For the record Australia was the only country to have won 6 medals in the 6 Olympics prior to 2016.

If Belgium was to win the gold medal, they would be a worthy and deserving winner.  Each countries' penalty conversion rate will go a long way to determine the winner.

I seem to remember the Australian men's hockey team in the 1970s, 80s & 90s invariably choking in the big medal play off matches at the Olympics as the red hot favourites 42.....surely you havent forgotten them already?

To put it succinctly you don't know what you are talking about BH.  For example, they didn't go to the 1980 Olympics.  Here is a hint for you, don't believe what you read and hear from journalists who know the same amount about hockey as you do.  That is, a conjoined twin to nothing.
